Do you have a career goal to become a skilled and confident ICU nurse? UPMC Shadyside, a 3x Magnet-designated hospital, is currently hiring Full-time Registered Nurses to join our Medical Oncology Unit 6 Main and our Medical ICU.
This transitional program is a fast track to the ICU and is designed to equip you with the skills that you need to become a successful ICU nurse. You will begin your nursing career on 6 Main, and then transition to our MICU. In this time, it is our goal to help build the foundation, knowledge, and skill sets required when caring for the diverse and high-acuity patient population.
About the Units :
6 Main - Medical Oncology : 6 Main is a Hematology/Oncology unit specializing in a wide range of oncological diagnoses and is at the forefront of research. This unit primarily serves our lymphoma patients receiving chemotherapy and biological treatments. 6 Main is UPMC Shadyside Hospital’s Dedicated Education unit where clinical staff nurses serve as instructors for the University of Pittsburgh nursing students. These clinical staff nurses receive special training and opportunities to pursue further education at the university.
MICU - Medical ICU: The Medical ICU at UPMC Shadyside is a 20-bed critical care facility, the largest of Shadyside’s ICUs. We primarily care for critically ill oncology medical, cardiac, and post-stem cell transplant patients, however, due to our size, we frequently receive overflow from many other areas of the hospital. You can expect to see procedures such as tracheostomies and bronchoscopies right at the bedside, as well as the use of ventilators, vasopressors, and CRRT machines. We are very team-oriented here, which is important as the MICU can feel hectic at times; the MICU is an extremely rewarding environment for nurses who enjoy thinking on their feet to meet challenges and solve problems.
Transitioning to the ICU is contingent on upon the employee’s performance during the first year of hire. They must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating, lack any disciplinary action, and meet all requirements/expectations of their hiring unit.
