Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement and working closely with the Museum's Williams Director, the Staff Writer serves as an important voice for the Penn Museum, creating written materials-remarks, talking points, fundraising proposals, invitation copy, reports, and correspondence-to advance the vision and priorities of the Penn Museum.
The Staff Writer reviews content created by colleagues across the Museum and Penn's Development and Alumni Relations Department (DAR) and edits to ensure consistent messaging of Museum priorities and programs across all Museum and DAR collateral. The Staff Writer weaves DEIA principles into all the Museum communications they create, continuously refining the Museum's messaging and visual language to engage audiences of different social, economic, and educational, religious backgrounds. In telling the stories of people and cultures across the globe, the Museum commits to raising their impact and influence across human history, especially those of non-dominant groups who are often underrepresented or erased from the narrative.
The Staff Writer maintains communications flow with content requestors and providers, ensuring projects and time-sensitive needs are promptly completed. This role would have proven experience with writing, copy-editing and task management as well as project management software--experience with Basecamp and Microsoft Teams, a plus.
Qualifications:
Ability to understand, appreciate, and articulate the Penn Museum's mission and strategy. BA/BS, and three to five years in a fundraising setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience , required; experience in a cultural institution preferred. Experience including ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize a successful approach to achieving fundraising results; demonstrated ability to work with significant autonomy, and collaboratively, as part of a goal-oriented team essential; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong computer literacy and presentation skills, including presentation software, with a preference for Microsoft PowerPoint. Occasional evening and weekend work.
