In this new 6-week online lab course, MHCI students will explore an exigent problem in health care, drawing on knowledge from coursework in health policy, operations, behavioral economics, health equity, and more.

Part-time Online Instructor (Remote): Health Care Innovation Lab Course.
The University of Pennsylvania's Master of Health Care Innovation (MHCI) program invites applications for a part-time instructor (remote) for April-September 2023. The instructor will collaborate with program staff and course assistants to customize and deliver Addressing Challenges. In this new 6-week online lab course, MHCI students will explore an exigent problem in health care, drawing on knowledge from coursework in health policy, operations, behavioral economics, health equity, and more.
The MHCI forges a diverse network of innovative thinkers and leaders passionate about improving health care. Students currently work in roles such as clinicians, entrepreneurs, researchers, business executives, and consultants. The program is based in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy in the Perelman School of Medicine. Lab Overview
The lab instructor will provide guidance and facilitate group collaboration online among health care professionals in various time zones, as they propose solutions for an exigent problem. Key components include building background knowledge, defining problems, ideation around potential solutions, identifying stakeholders and decision makers, and creating professionally relevant final deliverables. Addressing Challenges runs July 11-September 11, 2023, with a break from August 8-28.
Specific Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of course materials.
Lead online synchronous and asynchronous interactions with students.
Provide meaningful and timely feedback on assignments and grading using a rubric, for up to 8 students, with a turnaround of fewer than 5 days.
Identify student needs and provide timely solutions in collaboration with course assistants and program staff.
Consult with individual students through email, telephone, or videoconference with a typical turnaround of 1 day.
Manage, monitor, and advise a team of course assistants to ensure timely and high-quality grading, feedback, and student interactions.
Qualifications
Extensive content knowledge in a field related to health care delivery, health care leadership, or health care innovation.
Familiarity with conducting library and online research.
Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
A graduate degree in a related field and prior teaching experience are strongly preferred.
Experience as an instructor or student in courses with an online component is preferred.
The expected instructor commitment spans 12 weeks and will be carried out remotely. This includes up to 20 hours contributing to course development, up to 15 hours per week during the 6-week lab, and 2 weeks for feedback on summative assessments. The position pays a stipend of $7,500 ($1,500 for course development, $6,000 for teaching) and does not include benefits.
