Job Description Summary
The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine, as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. GTP is a complex R&D organization consisting of research laboratories supported by multiple core functions which provide internal capacity to perform gene transfer studies from basic research through Phase 1 proof-of-concept human trials.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the "go-to" organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.
Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.
Job Description
Due to significant growth, the Vector Core is looking for a new analytical scientist to support potency development of the potency team within AS&T. This team participates in assay development and/or product characterization and release to support research, IND-enabling studies and clinical trials.
As a Analytical Development Scientist, you are expected to work as subject matter expertise into one or more of the potency assays within the analytics organization.
You will be under direction in the implementation of new technologies and development of new potency methods as well as assay qualification or conduct analytical testing using established protocols or standard operating procedures (may be conducted under GLP/GMP conditions). You will be documenting your activities in development reports and/or test records or in a database and may be participating in the establishment of new information management systems. You will be providing training for junior level staff on analytical testing methods and procedures. You will also working in collaboration with analytical leadership, to author, review, and/or revise protocols and standard operating procedures as needed. You will work both independently and as part of a team to accomplish project goals within specified timelines.
Successful candidates will have expertise with one or more of the following: mammalian cell culture, molecular, biochemical, cell-based assays. The techniques that are used across the vector analytics teams include qPCR, ddPCR, Enzymatic Assays, ELISA, MSD, In-Cell Western, High Content Imaging and HTRF.
Qualifications:
Master of Science in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering or or related disciplines and at least 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience in biopharmaceutical industry preferred.
The candidate should have 2 to 5 year experiences developing and qualifying functional cell-based assays for the characterization and release of biological products and experience in working in a regulated environment.
The candidate should have an understanding of regulatory guidelines and compliance.
The candidate will be responsible for the implementation of advanced analytical technologies and/or automated methods.
The candidate should be organized, motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
