Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Associate Director reports to the Director of Campus Recreation and is responsible for the overall planning, budgeting, assessment and coordination of Adventure Recreation, Competitive Sports, Fitness, and Aquatics. This position directly supervises the Assistant Director for Adventure Recreation, Assistant Director for Competitive Sports, Assistant Director for Fitness and Aquatics, Maintenance Technician, and Recreation Grounds & Turf Manager with indirect supervision of an additional seven full time staff members and hundreds of student employees. This position is responsible for two outdoor field complexes and a challenge course. Individuals in this role must be an excellent manager and supervisor, and have the ability to guide and support staff who have individual content expertise but who also must work as a team to support each other. This position is responsible for oversight of all departmental safety, risk management, certifications and compliance.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Master's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
  • Five to seven years collegiate recreation programming experience
  • Demonstrated involvement with implementation and management of recreational programs
  • Budgeting experience
  • Ability to assess programs for improvements
  • Management of multipurpose outdoor sports/recreational/field complex experience
  • Supervisory or related transferable skills, and ability to provide a high level of care to employees and be responsive to their needs
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Involvement in a related national association (NIRSA, AORE, ACE, etc.) as a volunteer, presenter, committee member, work group, etc.
  • Seven to ten years collegiate recreation programming experience (or recreation programming for a municipal recreation program and related experiences)
Required Certifications or Licensures
American Red Cross Instructor (may be obtained after hire).
