The Office of Strategic Communications maintains the University’s public image through strategic marketing practices, public relations, media relations, news services, publications, executive messaging and crisis/emergency communications through all channels including print, web, social media and email. The staff establishes standards for articulating the University’s mission, vision, core values, strategic goals and visual identity. These standards guide promotions for the University’s performances and events, and for sharing the accomplishments of its students, alumni, faculty and staff to external audiences that include potential students and parents, alumni, supporters and the general public.
With a primary focus on external communications, the Office of Strategic Communications also offers expertise, insight and strategic planning to the Chancellor and other senior-level administrators on communications issues and events within the campus community.
Primary Description of Work
This position in Strategic Communications will be a working video manager who leads and manages all video projects and assignments and video content production. The video team is responsible for generating video content for the university website, digital magazine and social media platforms, and news stories about the university, faculty, staff, students and programs. The video team serves the institution, conservatory and executive team needs.
Work Schedule and hours
Monday-Friday
8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
**Some evenings and weekends may be required depending upon production schedule
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
The Video Content Manager will lead, assist and serve as producer and director of all assigned video projects for marketing, news, website and social media:
  • Pre-Production: Including but not limited to development, budgeting, production coordinating, scheduling
  • Production: Including but not limited to: managing principal shooting, load equipment in/out, assisting technical crew
  • Post-production: Including but not limited to: overseeing editing process, managing assets, writing production reports
This position will independently seek out opportunities for video content across campus that would positively impact the university and keep UNCSA competitive in the higher education and performing arts market.
  • This includes researching and developing ideas for the most up-to-date video and video-related content for use on social media and for marketing — presenting strategic ideas related to findings and offering suggestions when video content is considered for various outreach efforts.
  • This position will assist employees in developing creative and innovative ways to deliver the university’s story through video.
  • This position will work with clients within the university to determine the video needs for their conservatory, program, event or performance.
  • This position will work closely with the Director of Digital Media and Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications to schedule and produce videos, including the chancellor and other administrators, as well as institution-wide events (i.e. Commencement).
  • This position will contribute to the strategic content planning for Strategic Communications — assisting in creative and innovative ways to help deliver products across multiple mediums and selecting and applying specialized techniques, tools, and talents to enhance the aesthetic quality of projects.
  • This position will serve as the advisor to conservatories and programs producing videos with external contractors.
This position is responsible for:
  • Setting the scope of the project, setting deadlines and assigning the project to staff for development and completion.
  • Developing scripts, timelines and scheduling to ensure the video meets the needs of the client, follows university guidelines and accurately represents the mission and reputation of the university.
  • Scheduling, filming, editing and finalizing video projects and delivering the videos on time.
  • Ensuring staff has the tools and information needed to create a successful product.
  • Guaranteeing projects go through the appropriate approval processes.
  • Managing and overseeing live-stream productions – including hiring freelance and contract employees for events.
  • Overseeing student crew and freelance/contract employees, including recruiting, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Performance b-roll – delivering cuts to Public Relations to share with media and to the Digital Media team for use on social media.
  • Organizing and adding metadata to b-roll and other assets using a digital asset management system.
  • Maintaining accurate equipment maintenance and organization, digitizing and maintaining relevant logs, and media storage.
  • Managing equipment inventory and preventive maintenance of all audio and video equipment – making recommendations when repairs and purchases are necessary and working with administration throughout repair and purchase process.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred competencies, knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Familiarity with UNCSA and the UNCSA School of Filmmaking.
  • Creating video of the performing arts
  • FAA Commercial Drone License/Remote Pilot Certificate

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience Required:
  • 3-5 years of experience working in video production
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Digital Media, Marketing, Communications or related field
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required in this position:
  • Familiarity with diverse camera platforms.
  • Must be comfortable/familiar with 4K workflows, directing, interviewing, cinematography, audio capture, editing and color grading.
  • Knowledgeable in lighting, media upload/storage and post-production.
  • Must be familiar with Adobe Photoshop.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Adobe Premiere and Media Encoder.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented
  • Self-motivated to test new solutions and innovative approaches to work
  • High degree of initiative and dependability
  • Ability to work with little supervision
Minimum Training and Experience:
  • Must be organized to effectively manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Maintain confidentiality as required and appropriate
  • Experience working in video production and post-production
