Primary Description of Work
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Access Services Librarian will manage the Access Services Department for the UNCSA Library and Learning Commons which includes circulation activities, patron account creation and maintenance, billing processes, non-music interlibrary loan requests, non-music course reserves requests, circulating technology, printing and scanning services, general collection stack maintenance, and the collection and analysis of statistics for the department. This individual will hire, advocate for, train, schedule, and supervise federal work study students and part-time employees involved circulation activity and coordinate graduate assistants working in the MakerSpace. They will also ensure proper wayfinding in the building through signage (both physical and digital) and regular updating of the library website and LibGuides. This position also oversees building hours in library calendars and systems and assists with coordinating special events in the library. Some evening and weekend work required.
Work Schedule and hours
Regular Hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with regularly scheduled nights and weekend hours.
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
  • Supervises and performs circulation activities during daytime and some evening and weekend hours.
  • Maintains (and creates as needed) patron accounts and all related billing processes in cases of overdue, lost, or missing items. Collaborates with Music Library desk staff on billing processes for music materials.
  • Fulfills non-music interlibrary loan and course reserve requests, ensuring access to affordable textbooks when possible, in coordination with Student Success Librarian.
  • Manages maintenance of general collection book stacks including re-shelving, shelfreading, inventory, and space management projects.
  • Oversees maintenance and management of library technology in collaboration with campus IT department. This includes the circulating technology collection and the public computer workstations throughout the stacks.
  • Maintains working knowledge of printing and scanning services.
  • Hires, advocates for, trains, schedules, and supervises federal work study students, part-time and graduate assistants to ensure excellent service to library patrons.
  • Coordinates graduate assistants working in the MakerSpace and supports operations as needed and able.
  • Collects and reports yearly circulation and door-count statistics for inclusion in IPEDS/ACRL reports using Alma Analytics and other software.
  • Maintains Springshare based reservation system for study rooms and other reservable spaces and supports needs of users accessing the spaces.
  • Maintains and updates wayfinding and signage, along with library website and LibGuides as necessary.
  • Sets Access Services policies in coordination with the Access Services department and Music Library. Communicates updates to relevant parties.
  • Serves on Library Outreach committee.
  • Serves as secondary building access coordinator, working with University Librarian and Business Specialist to ensure proper access to the building for employees, faculty, and staff.
  • Serves on campus committees and exhibits a commitment to university service and equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
American Library Association accredited Masters degree in Library Science.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Alma/Primo VE and Alma Analytics
  • Evidence of successful participation in collaborative projects/work teams
  • Background or affinity for the arts
