Summary
Participates as a memberof an archeology team assisting in the laboratory, fieldwork and reporting phasesof an archaeology project. Primary duties are laboratory oriented.

Duties and Responsibilities
Performs systematic observation of possible archeological field sites using accurate mapping techniques and established field recording methods; interprets data using topographic maps and aerial photographs; establishes site boundaries by walking through areas and using surveying instruments.
Participates in archaeological laboratory activities.
Prepares archaeological collections for museum curation.
Participates in activities to re construct and preserve artifacts.
Advanced students may participate in artifact analysis and assist with writing reports.
May participate in archaeological fieldwork conducting survey or excavation as part of an archaeology crew.

Minimum Job Requirements
Current enrollment as a full or part-time student at UNM
Must major or minor in anthropology or closely related fields.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge of basic artifact identification.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Have passed or currently enrolled in ANTH 122L.
Preference given to students who have completed an archaeology field school.

Must be enrolled full or part-time as a UNM student
WorkingConditions and Physical Effort
Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
The University of NewMexico provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
