The Departmentof Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico seeks apostdoctoral fellow with research experience in somearea of C*-algebras, such as K-theory or semiprojectivity, that is connected tocurrent research in topological physics. This position will be at the University of New Mexico and willinclude some teaching (averaging one course per semester) of mathematicscourses.
Thisposition will require you to conduct a portion of your research on mathematicsneeded for an ongoing project involving electron structure of materials. This project involves pure and applied mathematiciansand theoretical physicists, both at UNM and the Center for IntegratedNanotechnologies (CINT), a DOE user facility near the UNM. A key part of the mentoring will be to trainyou to interact with these other disciplines. However, your main research task will be proving theorems to bepublished in mathematics or mathematical physics journals. You will interact with Dr. Alex Cerjan andother physicists at CINT, but your office space will be at UNM and your supervisorwill be Prof. Terry Loring.

Required Qualifications:

• A PhD in pure mathematics or a related field by the start date.
• Proven record of theorem proving and discovery in mathematics.
• Experience with some subset of: semiprojectivity of C*-algebras, K-theory of C*-algebras.
• Experience of teaching mathematics, or as a teaching assistant in mathematics, for English speaking students.
