Position Summary

The University of New Mexico NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) invites applications for faculty in the areas of; gene expression, transcriptional regulatory and alternative splicing mechanisms relevant to cancer; the biology and role of noncoding RNAs in cancer development and/or progression; and functional genomics (including investigators employing CRISPR/CAS or other functional genomic screening technologies). We seek highly interactive basic and translational scientists to join a vibrant and highly collaborative research community based in the UNMCCC Cancer Genetics, Epigenetics, and Genomics Research Program whose members are engaged in research spanning from basic laboratory discovery to translational and clinical science. While these positions are Open Rank, Tenure Track, and open to both junior and senior investigators, successful applicants will have a strong track record of scientific accomplishment exemplified by peer-reviewed funding (NCI, NIH, or other agencies), high quality publications, and collaborative research. A strong cancer research focus is essential. Significant resources, including excellent salaries, comprehensive start-up packages, and endowed positions, are available. Faculty rank and appointment will be commensurate with accomplishments.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center within a 500-mile radius. The UNMCCC has undergone a decade of remarkable growth and development and is now home to the Southwest’s largest team of cancer physicians and scientists. One of 49 premier Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide, the UNMCCC has 130 board-certified oncology physicians and surgeons who care for over 60 percent of New Mexicans diagnosed with cancer. Through its statewide cancer clinical trials network, considered an “exemplary national model for cancer clinical trials and health care delivery research,” the UNMCCC offers access to over 200 clinical trials. Over 100 research-intensive faculty comprise our 3 NCI-CCSG Research Programs (http://cancer.unm.edu/research/programs/). We have outstanding shared resources for research including state of the art genomics and next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, tissue banking and analysis, advanced microscopy and cell imaging core and animal models (http://cancer.unm.edu/research/shared-resources/). The UNMCCC is also a member of the ORIEN National Network of NCI Cancer Centers engaged in precision oncology, data sharing, cancer clinical trials and collaborative research (http://oriencancer.org/). Focused on discovering the causes and the cures for cancers disproportionately affecting the multi-ethnic peoples of the American Southwest, the UNMCCC has developed new diagnostics and treatments for leukemia, and cancers of the breast, lung, ovary, prostate, liver, pancreas, brain, and melanoma.
