Position Summary

The University of New MexicoCollege of Pharmacy is seeking an exceptional applicant to join our faculty.This is a 12-month clinician educator-track faculty position at the Assistant/AssociateProfessor Level. This is an open rankfull-time 12-month (non-tenure track) faculty position for individuals focusingon community pharmacy. The successful candidate in a Clinician Educator trackposition will establish an active clinic site that will also serve to preceptAPPE students 25% effort). Academic responsibilities include teaching in thedidactic professional curriculum (~40% effort). Administrative responsibilitiesinclude Director of Co-Curricular Activities (~35%). Also, as a component ofthe focus on community pharmacy the candidate will also liaison with theCommunity Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network (CPESN) in New Mexico. Candidateswill also be expected to contribute to the scholarly and service missions ofthe College (~5% effort). Additional responsibilities include contributing to thevision, mission, and strategic plan of theCollege; mentoring, supervising and evaluating the activities and performanceof students, residents, and support staff as appropriate. The individual will be expected to collaborate with other faculty and share the University and College’s values.
Community Pharmacy
The UNM College of Pharmacy has a long and strong relationship with the state’s independent and chain pharmacies. With our community partners we have engaged in educational, clinical, research, and population health initiatives. We have over 150 Advanced Community APPE sites and over 175 IPPE Community sites. The average incoming P1 class size is between 55-60 students. The College of Pharmacy is also highly involved with the Board of Pharmacy and with the state’s legislators to promote and advance community pharmacy.
The UNM College of Pharmacy is dedicated to addressing the needs of the underserved and vulnerable communities of New Mexico. Specific opportunities exist to undertake impactful research on health disparities among the many Hispanic/Latina and Native American communities. The rural populations of New Mexico are further disadvantaged by poor access to health care, in addition to high prevalence of substance use disorders, mental health disparities, and unique occupational and environmental health challenges. Candidates with specific interests in addressing issues related to health disparities and working with vulnerable populations are encouraged to apply.
A Profile of the UNM College of Pharmacy
Located in the historically rich and culturally diverse Southwest, the College of Pharmacy is part of theHealth Sciences campus and works collaboratively with the School of Medicine,College of Nursing, College of Population Health, UNM Hospitals, and UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center in the state’s largest health complex. TheCollege holds the distinction of having one of the most ethnically diversestudent body in the nation. Unique programs within the College include the NewMexico Poison and Drug Information Center and the oldest training program innuclear pharmacy in the country.
UNM offers excitingopportunities for inter-professional practice, research, and education. TheCollege has 53 faculty and 474 preceptors throughout the state. Strongpartnerships with the New Mexico Pharmacists Association, New Mexico Society ofHealth-System Pharmacists, and the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy have createddisease state management programs and innovative practice opportunities,including advanced practice pharmacists (pharmacist clinicians) and pharmacistswith independent prescriptive authority. The College ranks 6th in NIH researchfunding and 22nd in overall research funding among the Colleges of Pharmacy inthe United States. In addition to a stimulating academic environment, the College is located in Albuquerque, in the Sandia Mountain valley. With more than 310days of sunshine a year, Albuquerque has year-round recreational opportunitiesfrom skiing in high alpine mountains to hiking and biking across a varied terrain.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited institution
  • Previous clinical experience in community pharmacy
  • Experience with teaching and mentoring students in a relevant academic environment.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of New Mexico

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of establishment of advanced clinical practice in the community setting
  • Experience working with Board of Pharmacy
  • Completed post-doctoral training, residency, fellowship, and/or faculty experience in community setting
  • Evidence of leadership and advocacy for the pharmacy profession.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
