Under limited supervision, implements and coordinates a comprehensive underwriting marketing program for a public broadcasting station in accordance with defined revenue goals, and in compliance with relevant FCC regulations. Identifies, cultivates, and secures contributions from business supporters, sells air time to non-profit organizations, and secures goods and services through trade agreements. Negotiates and prepares contracts and agreements, and oversees and monitors their fulfillment by the station.
Duties (General):
This position is to be KUNM Development Department's Community Relations Coordinator for three crucial areas of responsibility at KUNM: 1) sales/public relations to non-profit organizations: responsible for the non-profit paid announcements that air on KUNM, from building the relationships with the organizations through education, marketing, and excellent customer service, to drafting and signing the sales contract, to writing the script, to scheduling the announcements, to ordering the production, to billing the clients and collections. Expected to do everything possible to retain the base of over $225,000 in annual non-profit cash and trade sales (with trade being no more than 20% of the total) and build on that by adding new clients. 2) traffic:scheduling the non-profit announcements, entering pertinent information into the program log (station promotional announcements, program changes, etc.) producing the program log, reconciling the program log, and producing the monthly billing for both non-profit and business underwriting clients. 3) digital sales: sell display ads and audio streaming ads for KUNM website, and other on-line sources as identified.
Duties (Detail):
Responsible for sale of air time to non-profit agencies, including but not limited to, discussing schedule time for announcement to air, writing up contracts, providing follow through and customer service on their account.
Enter contract in sophisticated broadcast traffic software that is used to generate on-air program schedules (logs).
Write and edit copy of non-profit announcement for airing on KUNM; write up production order, possibly voice announcement and proof final product.
Schedule all announcements (spots) into traffic software and generate logs; reconcile logs after airing.
Generate monthly billing from contracts with non-profits including but not limited to printing and mailing of invoices, posting of payments, follow up with non-payments and reconciling according to current accounting procedures connected with UNM and KUNM's accounting standards.
Provide support during pledge drives answering questions for phone captains, on-air announcing if needed, and other duties as assigned.
In the course of selling non-profit announcements, leverage relationships to establish some joint venture events with other non-profits, identify high volume and appropriate events where KUNM can trade for booth space, and trade agreements for venues KUNM can use for member events and other events for community outreach.
Associate's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Finance, accounting, budget, and cost control procedures experience a plus. Graphic design software experience a plus, although not required. Willingness to learn graphic design principles and software use required in lieu of experience.
