Position Summary

New Mexico Veterans Upward Bound (NMVUB) seeks two part time Education Associates who will be based in Gallup New Mexico and Farmington, New Mexico for the TRIO VUB Program hosted by UNM-Taos.

The Education Associate provides on-site programmatic and administrative coordination on behalf of a specified UNM-sponsored community/regional education program at a single, geographically remote location. Serves as community liaison and facilitator between the program elements and the target community, and directly collaborates with the community in the achievement of the program's goals and funding objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arranges and facilitates student recruitment, program enrollment, intake and orientation activities for the NMVUB program.
  • Represents and markets the NMVUB program to the target community/region; serves as a resource to the community on information on program-related activities and issues.
  • Provides local support and peer mentoring for students, faculty, tutors, preceptors, and visiting faculty, as required; coordinates with NMVUB staff to arrange tutor training sessions, and facilitates all day-to-day routine and non-routine program needs as appropriate.
  • Identifies, recruits, and orients local faculty, tutorial staff, and instructional support personnel as appropriate.
  • Interacts with UNM and partner school faculty and central program administration to facilitate the curriculum needs of students; connects students with UNM and community resources, and assists students with technical, personal, and/or academic issues as appropriate.
  • Distributes and collects program evaluation materials from students, faculty, tutors, and community participants.
  • Assists students with registration, financial aid, and access to University services, as required.
    Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Military Service Veteran preferred but not required
  • Experience working with military service members, veterans, or family members
  • Knowledge of Federal and NM State veteran education benefits
  • Experience working with underprivileged and/or underrepresented individuals
  • Experience with networking and building relationships with community non-profit or other organizations
  • Ability to work equally well alone or within a group. Competence in asking for direction or help as needed.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the area of responsibility as needed.
