Position Summary

The Contract & Grant Administrator position will play a critical role in the Cancer Center Research Administration, and will oversee all pre- and post-award grant and contract responsibilities for assigned Cancer Center investigators. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, highly organized individual with pre- and post-award grant and contract experience, or a willingness to learn these skills to join the Cancer Center administrative team.

Specific details of the job duties and responsibilities are:

·Assist assigned Cancer Center investigators in all elements of pre-award grant and contract development, including budget development, completions of all sponsor and internal forms, obtaining required approvals, document collection and formatting, creating of electronic and paper application packages, liaising with subaward institutions, facilitation of planning meetings, etc…

·Manage research portfolios of assigned Cancer Center investigators in the post-award stage, including review of regular financial reports and oversight of all grant charges, identification of problems or concerns and development and implementation of solutions, subrecipient monitoring (confirming invoices are received, valid, and paid in a timely manner), participation in close-out process, development and submission of progress reports by due dates, maintenance and oversight of unfunded agreements (MTAs, MOUs, CDAs, SRAs), submission of IRB/IACUC/IBC paperwork as required, effort certifications, etc…

·Tracking and reporting development of planned and pending grant and contract applications, productivity, outcomes, and fiscal “health” of supported programs.

·Other duties designed to contribute to achievement of the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the Cancer Center Research Administration office as assigned.

The successful applicant will possess knowledge of the OMB Uniform Guidance, other grant and contract rules and regulations, and general concepts in research administration or be willing to learn this information. They will have basic skills in the preparation of NIH and other sponsor grant and contract applications including development of budgets (including multi-project U01 and P01 budgets), and the ability to gather and organize data into the required format per sponsor guidelines. The successful candidate will have the ability to create accurate and deadline oriented work and will be expected to either already be familiar with or capable of learning to work within UNM-specific policies related to grants and contracts, compliance requirements, fiscal processes, purchasing, and HR.

This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with two days working remotely and three days working on site, per week.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 146 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico’s cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated 13,578 patients in 105,748 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of 1361 patients participated in cancer clinical trials, including 544 (40%) patients who participated in clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 102 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $36.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published 930 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 530 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience providing support to faculty in leadership roles and problem solving in a complex environment that spans multiple departments and organizations

•Experience with all stages of pre-award grant and contract development: identification of funding opportunities, guideline review and evaluation, budget development, completions of electronic and paper applications, document collection and formatting, development of subawards, etc…

•Experience with all stages of post-award grant and contract management: review and evaluation of financial reports, oversight of expenses, identification of problems or concerns and development and implementation of solutions, subrecipient monitoring, grant and contract close-out process, development and submission of progress reports, maintenance and oversight of unfunded agreements (MTAs, MOUs, CDAs, SRAs), submission of IRB/IACUC/IBC paperwork, effort certifications, etc…

•Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance, particularly related to Cost Principles and allowable vs. unallowable charges on sponsored awards

•Knowledge of Banner and MyReports

•Knowledge of UNM Purchasing Policies/Procedures

•Knowledge of UNM HR Policies/Procedures

•Experience with EXCEL and MS Word

•Experience with ERA Commons and NIH ASSIST systems
