Description of Work As an Ag Equipment Operator, you will: - Be responsible for farming, production, and research operations including field preparation, crop planting, treatment, and harvest in research plots.
- Operate and maintain modern farming and seed conditioning equipment.
- Operate seed conditioning plant, preserving, packaging, and storing seed.
- Provide general farm support including disking, cultivation, irrigation, mowing, etc.
- Serve as a primary fertilizer applicator for both research and non-research allocated land.
- Install and operate precision agricultural software and equipment.
- Collect, download, and report on research data using GIS and GPS systems.
This position is located at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center ( ENREEC ) near Mead and Ithaca, NE. ENREEC is conveniently located within 30 minutes of both Omaha and Lincoln metro areas.
EPA Non-commercial Pesticide Applicator license, Commercial Driver's License Class B, NRD Nitrogen Application certification, and Forklift and sprayer operation certification must be obtained within six months of employment. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Ag Research Technician II.

Minimum Required Qualifications - High school diploma plus four years of experience in commercial or family farm-based agriculture; OR Associate degree in agriculture or related field plus two years of experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
- Working knowledge of farm machinery/equipment operation and application of herbicides/fertilizer/insecticides.
Preferred Qualifications - GIS and GPS software use and installation experience preferred but not required.
- Commercial Driver's License Class B preferred but not required prior to hire.
