The College of Humanities and Sciences invites applications for a Grant and Scholarship Specialist. In this position you will play a crucial role in supporting grant-funded research activity and student scholarships within the College of Humanities & Sciences. The specialist assists faculty with grant proposals, ensuring that Requests for Proposal are carefully reviewed and their guidelines followed, and that budgets conform to University and funding agency requirements. Once an award is granted, the specialist ensures that budgets are adhered to and that appropriate accounting principles are strictly applied. The Specialist collaborates with the Director of Fiscal & Personnel Services to ensure that scholarship funds within the College are fully-expended annually.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide fiscal budgeting and analysis for the College of Humanities and Sciences, with a focus on the social sciences and humanities.
  • Independently and effectively develop and monitor grant-, unit-, or person-specific budgets and contracts.
  • Track and manage grant budgets and spending trends, and be able to communicate those trends in an appropriate medium such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Assist faculty in generating new grant submissions, including research of funding agency application requirements, detailed review of RFPs, and advice to PIs on proposal requirements - including departures from standard proposal guidelines.
  • Secure approval from ORSP and complete grant application fiscal and compliance forms.
  • Participate in research projects as requested by project directors.
  • Assist with scholarship administration for the College.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated Knowledge of professional budget management practices and accounting principles.
  • Experience applying professional budget management practices and procedures and accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability preparing project budgets for a variety of funding agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret details of a myriad of sponsored project regulations, and to communicate these regulations to project directors and research staff.

Minimum Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years related work experience.

Position Details

Position Title: Grant and Scholarship Specialist (Budget Analyst IV)

Position Number: 009220

Department: Humanities and Sciences

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.

Salary: $29.614/hr Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department.

Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
