The Department of Family & Community Medicine, University of Missouri-Columbia seeks a faculty member to contribute to its mission of improving the health of Missourians while creating exemplary care environments for effective teaching of medical students and resident physicians. The MU Supportive and Palliative Care program offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient consultative services to improve the quality of life of patients, including relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. They also identify patients with serious illness who do not yet qualify for hospice, but instead would benefit from establishing with outpatient palliative care at discharge to follow until appropriate for hospice enrollment. Palliative care team members are currently embedded in the MICU, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, MU Emergency Department, Cardiology, PM&R and ALS clinics identifying patients who would benefit from advance care planning to ensure those patients who do not wish to be in the hospital at the end of their lives have their wishes respected, as well as to identify patients who would benefit from hospice now. Our system is the only health center in central Missouri who offers outpatient palliative care services.
