Summary

The Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Mathematics for either the Fall 2024 term (which runs from August 26-December 31, with classes ending on December 18) or the 2024-2025 academic year (August 26-April 30).

The selected candidate will teach Math 105 (Data, Functions, and Graphs-Precalculus) and/or Math 115 (Calculus 1) for a 100% appointment. In CSP, a 100% appointment is a 2-2 load (2 classes each semester with 12 contact hours each week), 6 hours of office hours each week, and additional student support. Review of applications will begin on June 30 and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach a range of college level Precalculus and Calculus courses with an emphasis on concepts and applications over formulae and rote computation. Successful candidates will share the CSP Math faculty's student-centered, compassionate, and humanistic teaching approach and organize their classrooms as spaces of active, collaborative learning where rigor is balanced with support.

All CSP faculty are required to offer extended office hours, as well as additional hours for individualized instruction (conferences). All faculty must provide students with regular feedback on homework assignments and quizzes. Applicants for this position are also expected to interact with and provide feedback to CSP Academic Advisors regarding student academic progress throughout the term.

In their teaching and course materials, candidates are expected to employ anti-racist, inclusive, and accessible practices. Teaching qualifications, teaching experience, and evidence of outstanding teaching will determine the selection of a candidate.
