University of Michigan is Hiring an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Near Ann Arbor, MI

$1,000 sign-on bonus available!

Summary
Pharmacy Technician positions are available in the adult acute care setting. Looking to create a diverse team to help perform patient care activities. Locations include Central Pharmacy, Central Pharmacy Cleanroom (sterile compounding), Operating Room (OR)/Cardiovascular Center (CVC), and Adult Emergency Services (AES). Specific areas and shift times are available depending on current area needs.

General Pharmacy Technician duties may include:

  • Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
  • Prepare sterile products, injections and IV chemotherapy
  • Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
  • Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
  • Deliver medications to nursing units including surgical rooms
  • Stock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, properly dispose expired medications or return to manufacturer
  • Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
  • Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  • Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
  • Complete restocking and dispensing activities using pharmacy automation
  • Receive orders and prepare and package medications for outside clinics
  • Build various medication kits, providing support to many different professions
  • Conduct admission medication histories
  • Assist the pharmacist in resuscitation bays
  • Performing pharmacy cleaning and documentation
  • Assist with training of staff
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications
  • Work in a highly collaborative environment including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Managers, Technician Supervisors, and other medical professionals

Required Qualifications*

  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability: Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.

Pharmacy Technician Associate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.

Pharmacy Technician Intermediate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
  • One or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.

Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Pharmacy Technician Senior:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Two or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.

Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Desired Qualifications*

  • At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable.
  • Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations is also highly desired.

Licensure & Certification
“The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.Please visit the Michigan LARA website for more information about Pharmacy Technician licensing: http://www.michigan.gov/lara/0,4601,7-154-72600_72603_27529_27548-340669--,00.htmlNewly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment. In addition, All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.

Work Schedule
Full and Part-Time positions are available on days, afternoons, or midnights. Technicians are expected to work every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday), and provide holiday coverage. Technicians' main work area will be at the University Hospital or Cardiovascular Center. Those hired on the OR Team may additionally rotate to Brighton Center for Specialty Care. Weekend only schedules may be considered. If desired, please discuss this opportunity during your interview.Underfill Statement
