Summary

We are seeking to hire a Research Assistant to assist with a project in Dr. Liz Duval?s research lab in the Department of Psychiatry. This project will investigate neural mechanisms underlying learning and memory processes associated with trauma and substance use disorders. This entry level job will involve carrying out research activities under the direction of the principal investigator and/or project coordinator, focusing on data collection for a study using functional magnetic resonance imaging and skin conductance response. The position is ideal for a recent psychology/neuroscience graduate who would like to obtain research experience in a research laboratory before applying to graduate school.

Responsibilities*

Project Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to a federally sponsored clinical study of mechanisms underlying links between trauma and opioid use disorder. This position will be responsible for following study protocols, intervention, and data capture.
  • Assist with IRB approval and renewals, clinical trials registration, progress reports, and data sharing procedures.
  • Recruit, screen, and consent participants.
  • Run study visits, which involves orienting participants to cognitive and neuroimaging task instructions, setting participants up for physiological data collection, monitoring tasks and incoming data for accuracy.
  • Manage databases.
  • Clean and score skin conductance and MRI data for future analysis.
  • Assist with data analysis.
  • Perform literature searches.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to fulfill the goals of the project.
  • The potential exists to assist in the preparation of research papers for publication and presentations at conferences and workshops.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED is necessary.
  • Driver's license, access to their own vehicle, and willingness to drive between campuses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work efficiently independently and within a team.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to follow detailed protocols.
  • Motivated and excited to learn.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Associates degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable.
  • An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.
  • Experience using E-Prime to administer tasks to assess cognitive and emotional processes.
  • Experience collecting physiological and/or neuroimaging data.
  • Experience working with clinical populations, especially individuals with trauma and substance use disorders.
  • Experience using Statistical Parametric Mapping software for MATLAB to process and analyze neuroimaging data, and/or Acknowledge software to process psychophysiological data.

Work Schedule

Flexible 40 hours per week within the following: 8am-7pm Mon-Fri. Occasional weekends as needed.

Work Locations

Required to work in-person in Outpatient Psychiatry at the Rachel Upjohn Building in Ann Arbor.
