Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Sr. Director or designee, the Senior Refrigeration and HVAC/R mechanic supports and repairs all refrigerated and complex HVAC/R systems on campus.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repairs all refrigerators, freezers, including cascade and auto cascade systems, walk in coolers, and warm rooms back to manufactures warranty specifications.
  • Fix all ice machines, humidifiers, process chill water loops, and environmental room alarms, and phone dialers.
  • Oversee any refrigerated research related equipment repairs.
  • Install new freezers, humidifiers, ice machines, refrigerated incubators.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of complex HVAC systems including chillers, roof top units, and geothermal heat pump systems.
  • Test HVAC systems for leaks and ensure proper refrigerant levels and system operation.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform necessary repairs to packaged humidifiers, mini splits, heat pumps, and other assigned equipment.
  • Complete appropriate documentation ensuring accuracy of data for accreditation and compliance purposes.
  • Maintain refrigerant recovery records.
  • Must be able to use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work assignments and or performing tasks and recording time and work completion.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and anticipates future needs.
  • Assist in researching and ordering parts.
  • Attending all required training.
  • Ensure materials and equipment requirements are at site to complete work in an efficient manner.
  • Conform to codes, rules, regulations and safety standards associated with the trade.
  • Handle all rigging requirements in moving and relocating refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, documents time and material consumed in performance of this work.
  • While in the performance of routine duties; may be required, as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification, where the work or task does not require a specific license.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trade school graduate, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience in in domestic and commercial refrigeration installation
  • MA Refrigeration Technician License and E.P.A Universal Recovery Certificate
  • Hot Work Certificate or the ability to obtain in 3 months
  • Knowledge of tools, gases, hazards, and safety precautions particular to the refrigeration trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Effective communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations

PREFERRED QUALIFIFATIONS:

  • Experience with Microprocessors, PLC boards, and Variable Compressors
