Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The A. James Clark School of Engineering is dedicated to building lifelong relationships with its alumni base of 50,000 Fearless engineers by fostering a network of engaged Terps and supporting the careers of the next generation of engineering leaders starting with their first day on campus through retirement and beyond.
The Alumni Engagement Manager leads programs and implements strategies to enhance alumni participation and engagement in alignment with the goals of the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
This role is responsible for staffing the Engineering Alumni Network (EAN) Board including recruiting and onboarding volunteers and managing a portfolio of alumni events including logistics, promotions and post-event follow-up.
The position will serve as the liaison to the UMD Office of Annual Giving, develop alumni communications (newsletters, social media and alumni pages of the website) and focus on improving data quality including expanding tracking of alumni engagement.
The Manager participates in alumni relations professionals’ activities and implements best practices in alumni relations to ensure a best-in-class engagement program
Attendance at events during and after regular office hours and weekends will be necessary. Limited travel, primarily in the local region, is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in alumni relations or volunteer management, including event management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to compose and edit various correspondence, reports, and talking points.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, and organize and execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints, emphasizing strong organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service skills, essential for effective interaction and relationship-building with various constituencies.
  • Proven ability to adapt to an evolving environment, demonstrating a results-oriented and self-motivated approach to work, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact; understand and successfully follow all university policies.
  • Technical Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, Zoom, email marketing and design tools (Ex. Canva, Salesforce Marketing Cloud) and CRM systems, demonstrating a strong aptitude for technology and information management.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.
Salary Range: mid $70,000s to high $80,000s.
