The Department of Family and Community Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to deliver urgent care to the community members at our University of Maryland Urgent Care Columbia location on Waterloo Road. In this position, the FNP will provide urgent care services to include the evaluation and management of a variety of urgent care concerns from walk-in patients across the lifespan. The position consists of three 12 hour weekly shifts on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; laboratory and radiological services are available to expedite care. The FNP must be confident in practicing as solo provider. The FNP will work using established guidelines and clinical protocols under the supervision of a Medical Director.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
* Master of Science degree in Nursing with completion of a Nurse Practitioner program; Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland.
* DEA and CDS eligible
* CPR required
* ACLS/BCLS as required
* A minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse is required
* Demonstrates ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty
* Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
* Demonstrates highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
* Maintains updated mandatory training
* Updates immunizations as recommended per practice area
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Clinical Responsibilities
a. In clinical collaboration with the attending physician, provides day to day organizational and clinical direction and leadership of the healthcare team.
b. Performs comprehensive history and physical assessment for patients admitted/scheduled to service/practice setting.
c. Orders, obtains, and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests.
d. Establishes medical diagnosis based on history, assessment, and diagnostic findings, with MD collaboration as needed.
e. Designs, orders, and documents appropriate treatment plans/plans of care including prescriptions of medications based on a comprehensive review of HPI and diagnostic results, with MD collaboration as needed.
2. Education responsibilities
a. Provides formal and informal educational programs for other members of the health care team consistent with evidence-based practice standards.
b. Participates in mentoring activities. Precepts students.
c. Promotes understanding of disease processes in area of specialty/program.
d. Functions as a clinical resource for other team members including but not limited to interns, residents, fellows, nurses, and medical students.
e. Provides community education, health promotion and outreach.
f. Acts as a community health resource for specialty disease entity.
3. Clinical Leadership/Outcomes
a. Works with physicians to achieve service specific outcome targets for key metrics including clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
b. Participates in performance improvement activities aimed at improving clinical outcomes and minimizing variation.
c. In collaboration with physician leadership and the multidisciplinary team, develops clinical pathways
4. Customer Service
a. Models and upholds customer service focus to all internal and external customers.
b. Demonstrates respect for all people in the work environment.
c. Ensures confidentiality of patient information.
5. Professional Development and Organizational Leadership
a. Serves on department, hospital and community committees.
b. Maintains professional licensure, certification, and credentialing requirements as required by the Maryland State Board of Nursing and national certifying organizations.
