Position Overview:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an Educational Pathways Program Coordinator for the Division of Professional Studies. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost of Educational Pathways and Partnerships, and working closely with the department staff, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of the pathway programs at the UMBC Catonsville campus and the Universities at Shady Grove campus.

The program coordinator will provide direct support to potential and current students in UMBC pathway programs. The incumbent will develop collaborative pathway initiatives between Maryland K-12 school systems, community colleges, and UMBC. The pathway coordinator position is designed to build a pipeline of motivated and prepared students to meet the employment needs of employers within the region. The incumbent will work with colleagues at each of the partner institutions, employers, and the community to assist students at each stage of their academic journey. The pathway program coordinator will provide case management support to students from populations that are underrepresented with a focus on access and inclusivity.

Responsibilities:

This position will assist students to access career and academic pathways in focused degree programs while developing academic training, career readiness skills, work-based learning experiences, industry credentials, and degree attainment. The coordinator will work with students to develop and provide college degree supports and will facilitate programming and assist in integrating classroom studies with career competencies and work experiences. The coordinator will work with families to provide educational information and tools related to the higher education experience. The incumbent will build partnerships with employers to provide job-shadow experiences, high school apprenticeships, college-level internships, mentoring, and job attainment. The coordinator will help market the program to future pathway students with a focus on middle and high school students and regional pathway awareness campaigns.

Specific duties include:

  • Collaborate with staff members, pathway program leaders, as well as K-12 and community college administration and counseling staff to recruit new students and assist with interventions and programming.
  • Plan and coordinate yearly events for cohorts at each stage of the pathway program as it relates to partner institutions and related faculty and staff resources.
  • Coordinate services and resources that exist within partner institutions to assist students in the admissions process, obtaining academic supports, programming, and obtaining experiential learning opportunities such as workshops, job shadowing, internships, etc.
  • Create and facilitate student and employer programming. Provide counseling/advising to support students as they progress through academic and career pathways.
  • Provide personal case management with students to develop plans that will help them create meaningful career goals.
  • Effectively utilize K-12, community college, and UMBC career-focused resources, tools, and curriculum supports to guide students through their pathway experiences and expose them to in-demand career pathways.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis with Salesforce and web tools. Track all activities and student progress as they relate to programmatic outcome goals. Create and administer assessment and evaluation tools and reporting processes that are shared with institutional and regional stakeholders.
  • Work with pathway team members to develop new pathway programs and initiatives. Spearhead efforts to build programming for underrepresented students and to continuously provide access and equitable services.
  • Other duties as related to DPS educational pathway programming and the division’s mission.
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree and two years of professional, full-time equivalent experience related to the coaching/counseling/education of diverse youth/young-adult populations providing career-readiness related programming and/or career exploration guidance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree preferably in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Services, Human Resources, Business, or a closely related field. Previous professional experience and understanding of regional business communities are preferred. Professional experience with higher education preferred.
Preferred experience with data reporting and analysis.
