Statement of Job:

The University of Southern Maine seeks an individual to join our Facilities Management Department as a Mechanical Trades Manager overseeing the Gorham campus skilled trades team. This is a full-time regular position.

The Manager will supervise employees on the Gorham campus assigned to trades maintenance by prioritizing, assigning, and scheduling work; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, and maintain a healthy and safe working environment. This position will ultimately be responsible for all things related to skilled trades and mechanical maintenance primarily on the Gorham campus. This position will work to promote a strong and cohesive team that supports the University’s student focused every day mission on all USM campuses.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Direct management and support of reactive and preventative maintenance for the Gorham campus.
  • Supervision of individuals assigned to the Gorham campus Trades team.
  • Knowledgebase and ability to perform physical work associated with mechanical and skilled trade maintenance and support.
  • Management of contracts related to maintenance of facilities and supporting infrastructure (structural, mechanical, life safety systems, etc.).
  • Facilitate in-house reactive and preventative maintenance programs using an Integrated Work Management System.
  • This is an essential position with the expectation to report on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.

Pay is $26.55 per hour with a work schedule that is primarily Monday through Friday 7am-3pm with some evening and weekend work necessary to meet the needs of the Gorham campus.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with sufficient experience to obtain appropriate certification or license and seven years of related experience.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and ability to drive University vehicles per APL requirements
  • Effective communication skills
  • Customer Service knowledge & experience
  • Knowledge & experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical equipment and repairs
  • Supervisory knowledge & experience with prioritizing and assigning work
  • Experience with computers, related software applications, and budget management
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and be capable of standing for long periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
