Statement of the Job:

The Mail Carrier performs duties related to the collection and distribution of mail and parcels. Tasks are highly defined and follow clear operating policies and procedures. Full-time, 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. This position pays $15.90/hour, or applicable transfer rate.

  • Processes all types of incoming mail accepting, sorting, and boxing the incoming U.S. Mail and shipments via other carriers according to Mail Services, the Postal Service, and other carriers’ guidelines, procedures, goals, and deadlines.
  • Processes UPS, Federal Express and US postal service materials following all applicable rules and regulations, and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Operates mail truck or van in order to transport materials.
  • Provides basic customer service regarding postal service questions and general troubleshooting.
  • Performs basic office duties such as preparing mailings.
  • Maintains records or logs of operations.
  • May assign/delegate work assignments and smaller projects to student workers and/or temporary employees; may encourage teamwork and group efforts; may troubleshoot problems and issues commensurate with relevant experience.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Valid Maine driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated experience performing routine, detailed work in an accurate and organized manner in order to apply UPS, Federal Express and US postal service rules and regulations, and to prepare/maintain related records.
  • A commitment to understanding and applying safe work methods while maintaining a sense of purpose in completing tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and the interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, the campus community, and external clients and customers in a pleasant and proactive manner.
  • Experience providing exemplary customer service and a commitment to understanding and exceeding customer expectations with a cheerful sense of urgency.

Position typically requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the ability to drive, normally requiring a valid Maine driver’s license.
