Statement of Job:

The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for a dedicated Clinical Mental Health Counselor to join our Counseling Services Department. This is a full-time, fiscal year appointment reporting to the Director of Counseling and Wellness. This position will participate in a staff rotation to cover weekend and after-hours phone coverage for the UMA After Hours support line. This position will be located on the Augusta campus with some flexibility of a hybrid schedule.

The Clinical Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for providing direct services to students through short-term clinical counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals. In collaboration with other UMA student support staff, this position also serves as a consultant to various UMA constituents, including employees in UMA's housing department and UMA Centers to support students' emotional and behavioral well-being.

Salary: The hiring salary range for this position is $45,000 to $50,000 and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, evenings and weekends as necessary

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer competency and record-keeping proficiency
  • Familiarity with distance education techniques and/or adaptive technologies
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or a closely related discipline
  • Ability to work weekend and evening hours as necessary
  • Ability to participate in a staff rotation of weekend/after-hours phone consultation for the UMA After Hours support line
  • Ability to travel to any UMA location

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Clinical counseling license eligible

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with college students, especially students who are first-generation low-income, and/or individuals with disabilities
  • Experience with adult learners
  • Experience delivering services for individuals with disabilities, tutoring, advising, or other student support services
