Statement of Job:

The University of Maine at Farmington and the Department of Athletics seeks a part-time, seasonal Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach assists with all aspects of leading an NCAA Division III Program. This position requires the capacity to travel, availability during afternoon and evening practices, and availability during the competative schedule, including weekends.

A typical season is from October 15th through March 15th.

Essential Duties

  • Participates in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices.
  • On-court coaching in competition and training.
  • Prepares film breakdown and analysis; presents analysis to team members.
  • Plans and prepares for games and training.
  • Organizes team travel and meals.
  • Assists with scouting, recruitment, and strategy development.
  • Contributes to strength and conditioning program, including one-on-one strength, and conditioning work with student athletes.
  • Provides support and encouragement to student athletes.
  • Recruits and retains talented athletes; builds relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Understands NCAA and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) rules, compliance, and laws.
  • Ensures safety and well-being of student athletes.
  • Serves as an effective role model for college-age students.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of the program.
  • Provides clear and effective communication to the head coach.
  • Collaborates effectively with other Department of Athletics team members.
  • Assists with the coordination of team travel.
  • Attends and participates in department trainings pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass the NCAA rules exam prior to the start of the season
  • Experience with the skills of basketball
  • Valid driver's license (in good standing, based on UMS standards)
  • Varied hours (availability is a must)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Collegiate competative experience
