The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our admissions team as an Admissions Specialist. This role plays a crucial part in the enrollment process, ensuring a seamless experience for prospective students and supporting the overall admissions operations. The Admissions Specialist educates incoming first-year and transfer students, as well as families and counselors, about the University of Maine at Farmington and the college selection, application, and admissions process through customer service and front-end service work. This position will oversee the daily operations of the office, managing email and phone, as well as scheduling for the Admissions Office and visitors. This includes regularly scheduled visits, walk-ins, school group visits, special events, etc. The position may require extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during various periods. This is a full-time (40-hour work week), fiscal year position.

Qualifications:

Required Competencies

  • Problem Solving and organizational skills – Strong problem-solving skills
  • Adaptability – Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Communication - Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Planning and Organizing – Detailed-oriented and proactive.
  • Knowledge and Adaptability - Understanding and sensitivity towards the needs of diverse populations. Experience in higher education administration and college and university admission; in-depth understanding of the college admission process and the factors involved in making admission decisions.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving
  • Technology Utilization- Demonstrated ability to learn and use new technology; computer proficiency/knowledge; adept at learning and using software programs.
  • Team Building and Collaboration – Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. The individual must be effective at working independently and as a member of a team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Valid Driver’s license (based on UMS standards).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in Admissions or closely related professional field.
  • Experience working with high school/college-bound students and families.
