University of Maine System is Hiring a Program assistant Near Orono, ME

Statement of the Job

The Program Assistant will support activities to grow revenue-generating activities around the use of nanocellulose in art, to include material distribution, identification of grant opportunities and other events to promote the use of nanocellulose in art.

This is a six month, part-time, temporary position with a 20 hour / week schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the UMaine Intermedia Department to support the collaborative research between UMaine researchers and students across campus focused on nanocellulose
  • Recommend events and activities to enhance collaboration among student researchers
  • Develop a strategy for K-12 engagement, working towards a state-wide art challenge based on nanocellulose materials for middle school and high school students across the state
  • Develop a strategy for engagement with professional artists and arts organizations in the region to promote the use of nanocellulose
  • Develop and launch nanocellulose sales in the art community
  • Identify and secure grant funding opportunities to support a fulltime regular position

WORK SCHEDULE : Normal University of Maine business hours are Monday through Friday 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. This part-time, temporary position is expected to work up to 20 hours per week at the discretion of the supervisor.

The employee shall establish regular office hours and in consultation with the supervisor, adjust the work schedule as appropriate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : Work may be performed in a laboratory, classroom, office or remote field site. Workload priorities may need to be shifted and schedules changed to meet multiple deadlines.

Qualifications : Required :

Required :

  • Masters of Fine Art Degree in Sculpture or an equivalent combination of education and experience in other art related fields
  • Significant experience (5 years) planning and organizing events for a business audience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with partners and all levels of staff
  • Excellent skills investigating & understanding of materiality in the creation of 2D, 3D, & installation art
  • Experience coordinating art shows in a university gallery & museum setting
  • Experience introducing new materials to students and researchers
  • Ability to construct displays and navigate installation in challenging spaces
  • Significant Exhibition record & personal research with current art trends

Preferred :

  • Knowledge of best practices and experience developing new programs and initiatives for talent and innovation partnerships, especially at land-grant institutions
  • Experience developing effective working relationships with businesspeople, local and state government officials, as well as University faculty, staff, and administration
  • Knowledge of desktop applications and relational databases, especially Salesforce
  • Experience developing, packaging, and implementing creative solutions for partners
  • Knowledge of marketing and public relations
  • Curatorial and art installation experience
