University of Louisiana Lafayette is Hiring an Upward Bound 2 Academic Counselor Near Lafayette, LA

Position Title: Upward Bound 2 Academic Counselor

Department: 2820|Special Services

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced AcademicCounselor to join our Upward Bound program team. The Upward Bound 2 AcademicCounselor will be responsible for providing educational counseling and academicsupport to program participants, assisting the project director withidentifying eligible participants, and developing strategies to assistparticipants with their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities:
-Provide educational counseling and academic support toproject participants
-Assist project director with identifying and selectingeligible first generation/low-come participants for the Upward Bound 2 Program,serving 2 schools in 2 parishes
-Effectively communicate with staff, instructors,counselors, and families of participants to further the understandings of theparticipants’ needs on behalf of the project participants
-Travel to target schools weekly to monitor after-schoolactivities for assigned caseload
-Ability to work on 6-10 four-hour Saturday programmingsessions during the academic year
-Assess participants educational needs and developstrategies to assist participants with academic goals
-Facilitate college and career-readiness workshops
-Maintain and update student records and complete AnnualPerformance Report (APR) for student caseload
-Assist in the preparation and writing of Upward Bound grantproposals
-Experience working with high school students fromvulnerable backgrounds and personal experience overcoming similar barriers
-Attend meetings directly related to the operation of theregular UB programs and the Department of Special Services
-Ability to participate in overnight travel for studentevents, trio trainings, and national Trio advocacy events
-Must be available to work evenings, extended workdays, andweekends as needed for a a six-week summer residential program
-Perform other responsibilities assigned by the ProjectDirector, Associate Director, and Trio Director.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in counseling, education, business or public administration, communications, social work, psychology, or related field. 
-Five years of experience working with low-income/first-generation/disabled students. 

Preferred Qualifications:
-Knowledge about human development, mental and emotional needs, learning theories, and different counseling techniques. 
-Knowledge working with students from diverse backgrounds. 
-Knowledge of collegiate academic and financial procedure.
