Position Title: Program Assistant/Academic Advisor
Department: 2820|Special Services
Responsibilities:
In the department of Special Services, theProgram Assistant/Academic Advisor position consists of the administration ofStudent Support Services Disability Program, a federally funded Trio initiativeby the U.S. Department of Education. This position includes the responsibilityof the general operation of the office and academic advising of a caseload ofproject participants.
Responsibilities include:
-Assess and collect data for LIVE Text assessment report that is utilizedfor SACS purposes.
-Facilitate and re-design of necessary tutoring sessions.
-Assist with the tutor match and recommend specific tutors based on participantneeds in program.
-Assist and co-develop the Individual Education Agreement Plan (IEAP) inliaison with the Project Director.
-Analyze and review program applications.
-Assess the cognitive and non-cognitive skills of SSS-D participants based onself-reported assessment to determine source needs.
-Recommend referrals in the community for SSS-D participants.
-Participate and attend professional training and conferences for enhancementof project operations and services.
-Supervise the staff of tutors and student aides.
-Analyze, monitor, maintain, and reconcile budgets monthly.
-Understand procedural processes as it relates to compliance in the arenas ofstudent payroll.
-Facilitate the proper documentation of student records based on federalpolicies and procedures in the program.
-Verification and analysis of paperwork necessary for financial eligibility.
-Analyze and compile all necessary data for yearly federal reports.
-Recommend participants who are eligible for prospective grant aid based onfederal guidelines.
-Maintain participants' folders to ensure that all documents required by thegrant are in students' folders and that they are completed and in theproper order.
-Coordinate, develop, and present workshops for program participants.
-Directly work with students to meet project objectives in retention, goodstanding, and graduation rates which requires a postsecondary education.
-To perform any other responsibilities deemed appropriate by Project Directorto comply with the goals and objectives of the grant.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Social Work, Education, or related field.
-Two yearsof experience in working with low-income/ first-generation/ disabled student.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Computer Skills a must
-Preference will be given to candidates who are fromlow-income, first generation, and/ or disabled backgrounds.
