Responsibilities

Diabetes and Obesity Research using mice

POSITION SUMMARY:
The employee at this position will be responsible for carrying out research procedures involving mouse handling and genotyping as well as cellular and molecular biology techniques. Moreover, self-motivation, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential for this position. The employee will perform and co-ordinate multiple tasks on a daily basis. They will also ensure maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment and proper disposal of all materials.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Overseeing mice and their genotyping used in the lab including routine and non-routine breeding colonies, surgeries, tissue collection and other experiments as needed. This will involve performing specialized procedures on mice, and maintaining records, data collection, and analysis.
  • Performing ELISA, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR or related techniques and cell culture.
  • Helping fellows, students, and trainees with the methods and techniques used in the lab
  • Maintaining standard protocols, troubleshooting, and modifying them as needed.
  • Assisting in the preparation of posters, manuscripts and grants. Ordering laboratory supplies as well as maintaining an accurate electronic inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals and reagents.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in appropriate discipline required
  • 3-4 years specialized experience in related field required
  • Previous work experience in a research lab highly preferred;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
