Position Overview
SGD Student Ambassadors are student hourly employees and are members of The Center for Sexuality & Gender Diversity team. This position works closely with other SGD Student Ambassadors, Graduate Student(s), Programs Coordinators, and Director to enact the four pillars of: Advocacy, Connection, Education, and Wellness. This position is responsible for being a physical presence in The Center to assist those visiting the office, engaging with queer and transgender students, completing administrative tasks, tabling for various events, supporting signature and weekly programs, and working on special projects as assigned. This position provides opportunities for experience with community building, resource management, and leadership development.

Job Description
Job Duties Center Management (60%)
- Be physically present as a desk assistant in The Center for Sexuality & Gender Diversity (Kansas Memorial Union Suite 435) during weekly assigned shifts.
- Provide support to those visiting our office – students, staff, faculty, community members, and alumni - by sharing about services we provide, answering questions, referring visitors to resources, etc.
- Stock resource tables with pamphlets, flyers, resource handouts, business cards, calendars, stickers, buttons, and promotional materials.
- Stock the beverage and snack station with coffee, tea, sweeteners, stir sticks, snacks, soda, and water daily.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of The Center by wiping down surfaces, dusting, and vacuuming.
- Sort donations of clothing, accessories, and shoes for the Trans Closet.
- Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and inventory of The Trans Closet by wiping down surfaces, dusting, vacuuming, taking inventory, and displaying new clothing.
- Answer the office phone and provide assistance to callers.
- Review, answer, and/or forward emails addressed to the SGD email account.
- Manage the Lawrence Gay Liberation Front (LGLF) Resource library by checking out resources to students, staff and faculty, keeping library resources organized, and gathering recommendations from visitors.
- Gather materials for programs and educational initiatives, such as printing flyers, assembling Safe Zone binders, etc.
- Advertise resource and promotional materials in physical space and in social media. Ensure any outdated materials on the whiteboards are removed promptly.
- Assist with tabling and outreach initiatives for SGD and campus partner events, resource fairs, admissions visits, etc.
- Ensure that the tabling box is stocked with pamphlets, flyers, resource handouts, business cards, calendars, stickers, buttons, and promotional materials.
- Support weekly and signature programming by completing program specific tasks, promoting events to SGD visitors, and providing staffing for various events.
- Plan and execute single or reoccurring programs and events as assigned/upon request.
- Create designs and make buttons for pride flags, pronouns, identity days, and programs.
- Work on special projects such as conducting research, serving on program planning committees, co-present educational topics, etc., as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Proven written communication skills as demonstrated in application materials.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
- Enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Kansas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Accepted Federal Work Study award.
- Knowledge and background working with LGBTQIA related organizations, committees, and social justice.
- Participation in a student organization, preferably in a leadership role.
- A self-disciplined, self-starter, and proficient in time management.
- Be able to successfully and simultaneously manage many tasks of a broad variety in a timely and efficient manner.
- Demonstrated self-motivated and highly organized work through work or educational history.
