The Health Education Resource Office (HERO) is a source for KU community wellness through partnerships that support innovative approaches toward optimal health while maximizing academic and professional success.
This health education position is to assume responsibility for creating, implementing, and assessing university-wide wellness programs specific to nutrition, food security, and smoking/tobacco cessation. Other topics areas may include, but are not limited to: alcohol and other drugs; sexual health and healthy relationships; and self-management. The goal is to support healthy lifestyles by promoting protective behaviors and reducing high-risk behaviors.
The incumbent in this position will see, hear, and possibly have access to confidential information that must be handled in accordance with all relevant state and federal laws and university policies and procedures regarding its use and disclosure.
HERO utilizes computer technology in all aspects of its operations. The incumbent must become familiar with and be able to use the appropriate computer hardware and software programs associated with this position.
The incumbent must become familiar with and adhere to the Watkins Health Center Customer Experience Plan to ensure appropriate interaction and positive outcomes with both internal and external customers.

Job Description
75% Program Development- Create, implement, and assess university-wide programs and services specific to alcohol, cannabis, and other substances as well as self-management related topics.
- Research health topics for current issues, best practices, trends, etc.; design curriculum and any other related materials; and develop presentations for university students, staff, and faculty.
- Provide in-person and virtual health coaching sessions.
- Participate in campus-wide programming efforts.
- Consult with marketing staff members to develop content to promote programs and services utilizing various marketing tactics.
- Utilize various assessments to determine the effectiveness of the programs and services.
- Present feedback on all activities on a routine basis to Associate Director.
10 % Provide CPR instruction to students, faculty, and staff as requested.5% Attend professional development opportunities, such as seminars, workshops, and conferences on healthcare topics to acquire knowledge to develop and/or improve health education programs and services.5% Participate on various committees within the university and local community as appropriate.5% Other duties as assigned. - This position is hybrid. Incumbent works on campus and remote based on a set schedule.
- This position requires some evening and weekends for special events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Behavioral Health or related field PLUS *three (3) years of related experience. *Three (3) years of experience may include internship, practicum, fieldwork, or related experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in program development.
- Minimum (1) year of experience in data collection and assessment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Behavioral Health, or related field of study.
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.
- Experience working with college student populations and knowledge of current health-related issues and trends among college students.
- Experience working with diverse populations on health issues.
- Experience with public speaking.
