Job Description Summary:
Working with a senior team of researchers, clinicians and staff, the Frontiers Project Director will lead and support a full range of administrative and project management activities, including primary responsibility for administration of the pilot grants program and coordination of the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) in compliance with the terms of the Clinical and Translational Award (CTSA). Additionally, the incumbent will build relationships with research centers, cores and institutes across Frontiers partner institutions, supervise employees and support strategic management efforts. This position reports to the Executive Director of Frontiers.
This position requires a highly motivated individual with a strong attention to detail who can consider overarching program goals while maintaining deadlines and outcomes across various projects. The ideal candidate will be a team player who prefers open and direct communication and is willing to take initiative and manage a variety of responsibilities and expectations of multiple stakeholders.
The Frontiers Project Manager will work with a senior team of researchers and clinicians and will be responsible for managing the renewal process along with other project management responsibilities. This position reports to the Director of Frontiers, Dr. Mario Castro, MD, MPH.
This position will have a hybrid work arrangement. Incumbent will work remotely and on campus based on a set departmental schedule with an expected starting annual salary between $90,000 - $95,000.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
3 years' experience in project management
Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated abilities to manage several project activities and competing priorities simultaneously; someone who takes pride in multitasking and making deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or doctor degree in a relevant field
3 years' experience in project management in a biomedical research environment
Knowledge of research administration principles, policies and procedures that includes pertinent federal regulations involved in biomedical research
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or a willingness to become PMP certified.
Knowledge or experience in grant management or research administration with specific knowledge of federal compliance guidelines.
Awareness and involvement with the grant writing process, including knowledge of federal grant funding
Knowledge of research administration principles, policies and procedures
Job Duties Outlined:
Overview
Frontiers Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at the University of Kansas accelerates research by connecting scientists to resources, facilitating collaboration among researchers, communities and institutions, and offering education and training. Frontiers CTSI transcends disciplines to seek innovation and improvement in health care by supporting the researchers of today and tomorrow. Supported by a five-year (2022-2027), $27 million grant from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences of the National Institutes of Health, Frontiers is part of a network of over 50 hubs nationwide that work to improve the translational research process.
Project Management and Administration
This position leads and supports a full range of administrative and project management activities and projects aimed at creating an effective collaboration, coordination, and communication infrastructure to support scientific, training, governance, workgroup, and other types of CTSA consortium activities.
Lead projects, which include but are not limited to, the following:
Tasks and scope to complete deliverables, objectives, and goals on the established timeline
Ensure team members are focused on a common set of objectives
Monitor the compliance to the project plan and update the plan as needed
Internal and external project communication on project plans, status updates, meeting minutes, and action items
Implementing software, such as Flight Tracker for tracking and analysis of career outcomes, including publications, funding, training activities, and other milestones
Serve as the administrative liaison for the consortium of rural state CTSA hubs
Build collaborative relationships, train direct reports, connect with peers to achieve efficiencies, building cross-functional coalitions to ensure effective knowledge sharing
Support a positive team environment that emphasizes collaboration and professional development
Establish collaborative and effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to build effective networks for opportunity identification, assessment, and prioritization
Foster quality standards and continuous improvement to enhance Frontiers efficiency and effectiveness
Develop and document workflows, timelines, and standard operating procedures
All other duties as assigned
Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR)
This position leads the process to ensure the annual RPPR is completed accurately and submitted on time without exception. Working with Frontiers leadership, cores & functions, partner institutions, financial departments, and research administrators will be required to document Frontiers annual accomplishments and compliance with the terms of the Clinical and Translational Award (CTSA).
Responsible for facilitating the completion of the internal reports for the CTSA Program (UM1 grant)
Provide guidance for the KL2 and TL1 grants
Communicate deliverables, due dates, and updates across Frontiers
Work with KUMC Research Administration and Sponsored Program Administration to maintain clear expectations, responsibilities, and deadlines to ensure an efficient and effective reporting process is documented and adhered to
All other duties as assigned
Pilot Programs and Projects
This position supports the management committee and serves as point of contact Frontiers Clinical and Translational Research Pilot Programs and Projects that provide grant funding and other support to grow interdisciplinary, investigator-initiated clinical and translational research across a broad range of scientific disciplines. Promoting broad access and providing clear funding expectations are also vital responsibilities. The incumbent will also facilitate the RFA development, information distribution across all partners, reviewer recruitment and assignments, pre-award and post award processes and deliverables. The two primary pilot programs are:
The Lauren S. Aaronson Frontiers Clinical and Translational Research Pilot Program provides grant funding and other support to grow interdisciplinary, investigator-initiated clinical and translational research across a broad range of scientific disciplines. This pilot program is supported by and aligned with the NCATS Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program, which focuses on advancing clinical and translational science (CTS). The objective of this pilot program is to support new and innovative ideas that will lead to externally funded awards. The Consortium of Rural States (CORES) Multi-Institutional Pilot Program to promote inter-institutional collaboration across the CTSA consortium by funding innovative, translational research projects that involve multiple Principal Investigators from multiple CTSA hubs. The pilot projects must focus on an innovative plan to overcome or ameliorate a translational research barrier (i.e., a translational science innovation).
Additional pilot program responsibilities:
Ensure a formalized management plan is in place to address policies for solicitation, review, prioritization, funding level with justification, progress tracking, and evaluation.
Maintain clear expectations, responsibilities, and deadlines to ensure an efficient and effective reporting process is documented and adhered to
