Job Description

The Director of Financial Aid provides leadership and oversight of all financial aid operations and processes for the University including federal, state, institutional, and private/outside aid, while ensuring excellent customer service toward increasing student access, persistence, and graduation. As a key member of the enrollment management leadership team, the Director collaborates with other administrative areas to maintain an optimal balance between enrollment and retention goals, tuition discount rate and net income. The Director ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial aid guidelines, and implements financial aid policies and procedures. The Director is responsible for managing all resources to accomplish department goals and to represent financial aid interests throughout the University.

Responsibilities- Director of Financial Aid
  • Articulation of mission, goals and objectives of the financial aid office
  • Management of all office operations necessary to request and distribute financial aid funds from federal, state, university and outside sources
  • Supervision financial aid staff and the development of all institutional policies required either by government regulations or institutional priorities to administer federal, state and university student financial aid programs
  • Act as a liaison with the recruitment and marketing/communication divisions to create new business processes that use financial aid as a recruitment tool for prospective students. 
  • Analyze data from various sources to develop new aid programs and to strategically distribute UIndy scholarships to maximize recruitment and retention of students
  • Monitor, understand and manage institutional policies and federal and state regulations to ensure compliance 
  • Communication skills necessary to connect, mediate and coordinate internally and externally with students, parents, faculty, staff and others that award financial aid 
  • Fiscal accountability for all student aid programs
  • Efficient use of technology to streamline operations
  • Positive and cooperative working relationship with the administrative and academic community to effectively coordinate compliance, data sharing, policy development and procedural changes
  • Articulate issues, interpretations of law and regulation and represent views of faculty, staff and students in the development of policy to Cabinet and other groups
  • Travel as required to off-campus meetings, university functions and local, regional and national conferences 
Qualifications- Director of Financial Aid
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred 
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Director or Associate Director of Financial Aid is required. Complete knowledge of all aspects of the administration of federal, state and university financial aid programs with a working knowledge of federal and state law and regulation. Student and family centric approach to customer service. Strong communication, project management, data analysis and supervisory skills as well as experience with strategic enrollment management fundamentals. Experience/expertise in data analytics or skilled use of business intelligence tools.
