University of Indianapolis is Hiring an Art Teaching Resident for Ceramics Near Indianapolis, IN

Job Description

The University of Indianapolis Department of Art & Design is seeking an Artist Teaching Resident for Ceramics.

The Artist Teaching Resident will teach a maximum of 14 credit hours per academic year. Courses include entry-level hand-building and throwing, intermediate and advanced-level. In addition, the Artist Teaching Resident will serve as the Ceramics Studio Tech – Operating and monitoring the loading and firing of kilns (gas and electric), mix clay and glazes as needed, manage equipment and supplies, and oversee weekly Open Studio Hours.

The Artist Teaching Resident will have 24/7 access to the ceramic’s studio and use of equipment and kilns, a private office/workspace, and have access to the Dee Schaad Gallery to exhibit their work.

The successful candidate must have an MA or MFA in ceramics or related area and have previous teaching experience in ceramics. In addition, the candidate must have a robust exhibition record in ceramics.

Qualifications - Adjunct in Ceramics
  • Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics
  • Previous university-level teaching experience 
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the faculty member in charge of the Ceramics studio
  • Professional work must reflect a high level of technical ability and an understanding of contemporary issues in the field of Ceramics.
Responsibilities - Adjunct in Ceramics
  • Creates a safe and inclusive learning environment for students
  • Maintains a healthy and safe studio environment by upholding health and safety protocols
  • Teaches wheel-throwing techniques and hand building
  • Mixes clay and glazes and is proficient in glazing techniques.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects that may exceed 25 lbs.
  • Fires gas and electric kilns
