The Office of the Dean is the central administrative unit for the College of LAS and is home to college leadership and business functions including human resources, finance and resource planning, business services, curriculum and academic policy, research, facilities, and inclusive excellence.

Job Summary

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking a strategic leader who shapes and advances the research agenda across all LAS disciplines. This key role involves fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, optimizing research policies and processes to promote research excellence, and enhancing the impact of our scholarly endeavors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic vision and priority setting to expand the LAS research portfolio

* Develop strategic priorities for the LAS Office of Research.

* Collect and analyze data on college and unit-level research funding trends.

* Develop strategies to increase success of college researchers in competing for funding and publishing their scholarly work.

* Identify emerging research opportunities and connect units and researchers with appropriate opportunities.

* Plan and support research-related events, including training and faculty development activities, collaboration- building and networking events, and research symposia.

* Represent LAS in internal and external forums related to research policy, funding, and administration.

Develop and oversee Office of Research processes.

* Develop processes related to research administration for LAS units. Issues may include research safety, sponsored research, conflict of interest, research integrity, cost-sharing, and other research-related topics.

* Oversee and support Office of Research committees.

* Lead the LAS limited submission review process by communicating with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation and recruiting faculty reviewers.

* Maintain information about cost share requests and facilitate review of requests.

* Support teams of researchers in the preparation of large-scale grant proposals.

* Develop processes to collect, curate, and maintain information about LAS researcher expertise.

* Prepare and distribute information to faculty, researchers, and external partners.

Other duties as assigned that further the mission of the Office of Research and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree in life sciences, physical sciences, social and behavioral sciences or humanities Minimum of four years of professional experience in a research environment Experience in project management

Preferred Qualifications

* PhD in life sciences, physical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, or humanities

Experience with sponsored research, including writing research proposals

Supervisory experience

Successful candidates will have:

* Strong analytical, project, and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize work and manage a variety of projects simultaneously with accuracy and detail

* Ability to communicate effectively with others including professional writing and strong listening skills

* A demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people

* Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences

* Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The target salary for this position is $105,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.

This position is unable to support candidates who require work authorization sponsorship.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Champaign-Urbana each week).
