University of Idaho Instructor of English - Associate Director of Composition
Location: Moscow Division/College: Col of Letters, Arts & Social Sci. Employee Category: Faculty Pay Range: $49,356-$53,140 commensurate with experience FTE: 1.0 Full/Part Time: Full Time Position Summary: The Department of English at the University of Idaho seeks to hire a full-time Instructor of composition, professional writing, and/or English literature. This is a non-tenure-track, renewable, 9-month position with a 3/4 teaching load at upper- and lower-division undergraduate levels. The department is particularly interested in hiring someone who can also serve as Associate Director of Composition and assist with the Writing Studio Co-requisite Support Program (one course release for administrative work). The Associate Director of Composition is responsible for assisting the Director of First-Year Writing with: 1) leading the co-requisite composition program; 2) overseeing the writing placement process, including administering all aspects of the first-year writing challenge process; 3) overseeing the development of policy on matters pertaining to the first-year writing program; 4) developing and updating the first-year writing curriculum; 5) coordinating assessment of the first-year writing program; 6) supervising and training Teaching Assistants; 7) assigning teaching assistants to writing courses and assessing the effectiveness of teaching assistants as writing teachers; and 8) handling other matters concerning the First-Year Writing Program, including those arising elsewhere in the university and the state. Minimum Qualifications:
M.A. in English or related field;
2 years of experience teaching composition, professional writing, and/or literature.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in English or related field;
5 years of experience teaching composition, professional writing, and/or literature;
Experience working with co-requisite remediation/support or similar programs;
Training in rhetorical and/or composition theory and pedagogy;
Administrative experience.
