Position Summary:A major component of effort is to serve as Department Chair of Biological Sciences. Another part of this position is to conduct research, publish manuscripts and present findings at scientific conferences in the field of applicants expertise and seek and obtain funding to support research. The faculty in this position will participate in undergraduate and graduate student advising, chair faculty meetings and serve on departmental, college, and university committees as needed. Service outside the department could include reviewing manuscripts, grant proposals, and/or serving on grant review panels.
As department chair, the faculty member will assist higher administration in the assignment of duties and in the evaluation of the services of each member of the units faculty and staff; promote effective leadership of personnel and management of departmental resources; provide leadership in the development and implementation of unit plans; set an example for and foster open and collegial communication with faculty, staff and students at all university levels; foster excellence in teaching, scholarship, outreach and service for faculty, students, and staff in the department; and effectively represent all constituents of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:A doctorate in biology or related field
Achievement of tenure and rank of Associate Professor or higher
Evidence of an internationally recognized research
Experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Demonstrated leadership skills over course of academic career
Preferred Qualifications:Rank of Full Professor or higher
Ability to lead large scale research initiatives
Ability to bridge academic disciplines
Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and university and state administrators
