University of Idaho Accounting Specialist I or II
Location: Moscow, Off Campus Location - Hybrid work option available Division/College: University Research Employee Category: Classified Pay Range: Commensurate with Experience FTE: 1 Full/Part Time: Full Time Position Summary: Accounting Specialist I The Accounting Specialist I performs a variety of accounting duties that range in level of complexity from clerical accounting duties such as managing receivables and payables, to more complex duties such as reconciling accounts and resolving accounting problems. Duties may include:
Process, update and maintain various routine accounting records and documents
Prepare accounting statements, billing documents and financial reports
Enter, retrieve and maintain data on computerized accounting system
Respond to customer inquiries
Distribute and file various documents and reports
Compile reports to show statistics, such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, revenue and expense, and other pertinent information
Assist with reconciling accounting records
Assist customers with University policies and procedures or make referrals as necessary
Coordinate mailings and compose correspondence as needed
Collect and record payments; issue receipts
May answer and/or screen telephone calls and greet customers
Other duties as assigned
Accounting Specialist II The Accounting Specialist II performs a variety of accounting activities that range in level of complexity from clerical accounting duties such as managing receivables and payables, to more complex duties such as reconciling accounts and resolving accounting problems. Duties may include:
Process, update and maintain various routine accounting records and documents
Prepare accounting statements, billing documents and financial reports
Enter, retrieve and maintain data on computerized accounting system
Respond to customer inquiries
Reconcile / analyze accounting records for accuracy and completeness
Assist with researching and solving accounting problems
Assist with determining proper classification and coding of income and expenditures
Assist in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and University policy and procedures
Assist customers with University policies and procedures or make referrals as necessary
Collect and record payments; issue receipts
Prepare and make daily bank deposits and manage change funds
Take necessary action to resolve customer problems or discrepancies
Interact with internal and external auditors and participate in auditing projects
May process, update and maintain various complex transactions
Other duties as assigned
Salary range depending on education and experience:
Accounting Specialist I: $16.15 hourly, or higher commensurate with experience
Accounting Specialist II: $19.00 hourly, or higher commensurate with experience
Minimum Qualifications: Accounting Specialist I and Accounting Specialist II:
High School Diploma or equivalency
Accounting Specialist I:
Experience using computerized accounting systems or spreadsheet software to record or compile financial transactions
A Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance may substitute for the above work experience
Accounting Specialist II:
Two years full-time experience providing financial or business process support within established policies and procedures, including interpreting and applying policies and procedures to practical situations
Experience using computerized accounting systems or spreadsheet software to compile financial information, prepare summaries and reports
A Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance may substitute for the above work experience
Completion of at least one college-level accounting course with a preference for an Associates Degree or higher in accounting or finance
One or more years of experience in troubleshooting and identifying fiscal problems and discrepancies; creating and maintaining accurate records and transactions; interpreting rules and policies and procedures.
Experience working with the Banner Financial System Experience working in an area of Grant & Contract financial accounting or sponsored research administration
Accounting Specialist II:
Experience in a customer service / support role
Experience with governmental fund accounting
Completion of at least one college-level accounting course with a preference for an Associates
Degree or higher in accounting or finance
Two years or more of experience in troubleshooting and identifying fiscal problems and discrepancies; creating and maintaining accurate records and transactions; interpreting rules and policies and procedures.
Experience working with the Banner Financial System
Experience working in an area of Grant & Contract financial accounting or sponsored research administration
