Duties and Responsibilities
(Note: * denotes Essential Functions)- Process sediment samples according to EPA approved methods for faunal analyses
- *Identify and count specimens extracted from sediment samples using regional keys and laboratory 3. reference keys
- *Assist other laboratory staff with maintaining specimen reference collections, files, and grain size analysis.
- Search scientific literature for species descriptions and resources
- Other duties as assigned
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in biology or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for laboratory work or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of biology demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, and terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and systems associated with laboratory work.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of laboratory work.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, procedures, and techniques used in research or experimental laboratory work.
- Knowledge of computer databases and statistics
- Experience with benthic sample processing and specimen identification
- Experience with approved EPA methods for faunal analyses and granulometric processes
- Ability to prepare sketches of specimens using the microscope
- Ability to observe, analyze and report objectively the results of research experimentation
