Other Conditions: Extramural funds. Appointment to begin October 2022 or soon thereafter. Renewal contingent upon availability of funds, project/department needs, and satisfactory performance.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the Hawaii University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (HI UCEDD) and Pacific Basin University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (PBUCE) interdisciplinary programs by collaborating with faculty and other UCEDD programs; 
  • Assume a role of professional leadership in the relevant scholarly discipline; 
  • Develop and lead interdisciplinary training curriculum and activities;
  • Act as liaison between faculty in a variety of disciplines on and off-campus; 
  • In collaboration with the disability studies coordinator and outreach coordinator, expand the interdisciplinary training program in Hawaii and in the Pacific; 
  • Provide oversight of training and technical assistance (TA) program budget; seek and secure additional funding; 
  • Analyze training and TA program data to write reports, draft articles for publication, and present at state and national conferences; 
  • Serve on state, regional, national, and/or university committees; 
  • Collaborate with tri-agency in building trainings for the network;
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level disability studies courses;
  • Supervise DIS 699 (Independent Research course) students and other UCEDD trainees who conduct independent research for our core function activities.
  • Build field work, practicum, or internship;
  • Conduct research and evaluation work; 
  • Lead the needs assessment and the strategic plan for the UCEDD reapplication; 
  • Maintain an active program of research and publications;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Associate Specialist Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in an interdisciplinary field related to disabilities, such as disability studies, public health, education, social work, or psychology.
  2. Four (4) years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, ideally across the age span at the Assistant Specialist rank or its equivalent.
  3. Evidence of proficiency in teaching college courses in disability and diversity using various modalities. 
  4. Experience developing interdisciplinary training programs for diverse populations.
  5. Experience providing technical assistance to community groups and agencies.
  6. A portfolio of federal extramural funding activities and awards.
  7. Four (4) years of managerial experience in a complex organization with responsibility for budget development, facilities management, and personnel development.
  8. Demonstrated leadership in local, national, and/or international organizations.
  9. Evidence of significant interaction and leadership with the broader professional community beyond the University of Hawai‘i.
Specialist Minimum Qualifications
 [In addition to the Associate Specialist Minimum Qualifications]
  1. A minimum of four years of experience leading professional development/training for paraprofessionals or professionals and directing and/or coordinating federally funded research grants at the rank of Associate Specialist or equivalent is required. 
  2. Ten (10) years of experience in the field of disability and diversity reflecting points in time across the lifespan. 
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  2. National and/or international recognition as a leader in one or more of the involved disciplines and/or the field of disabilities. 
  3. Experience working in multicultural settings with diverse cultures and communities including familiarity with Hawaii and the Pacific islands.
