Position Summary
The Associate Director of Business Analytics, reporting to the Senior Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics, is responsible for overseeing and delivering business analytics solutions that advance and support the mission of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR). This includes managing one or more direct reports, collaborating with key stakeholders across the divisions to identify and deliver key projects, creating and maintaining analytic dashboards and custom data models, overseeing the business strategy for data analytics and reporting, managing data sources and data validation, and leading projects related to data analytics. The focus is on delivering valuable insights and decision-making support to the division through effective data management and analysis, while managing and developing a team to achieve the division's goals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Expertise in an analytical language (Python, R, or the equivalent), and experience with databases/SQL
  • Experience in data modeling and interpretation of insights from datasets using narratives and visualizations
  • Experience with one or more of the following enterprise visualization tools: Tableau, QlikView, Power BI
  • Data Warehouse principles and familiarity with data modeling concepts and methodologies
  • Experience managing a team and/or team projects to drive performance and achieve both short & long-term goals
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to analyze data, troubleshoot, and problem solve
  • Strong organization, prioritization, time management skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Strong reading comprehension skills
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills and the ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of persons

Develop and Maintain Analytic Dashboards and Custom Data Models
  • Design and produce required analytics and visualization deliverables using Tableau, Qlik, and other tools as required.
  • Complete advanced statistical analysis of large datasets to drive insights.
  • Design, develop, and maintain algorithms and models to use against large datasets to create business insights.
  • Develop and apply business analytics resources that improve workflow, transparency, accountability, and performance.
  • Perform advanced statistical modeling of donor behavior for use in strategic decision-making and forecasting.
  • Design and develop advanced analytics projects and forecasting initiatives that will make the data easily and transparently available to support the leadership team to solve business problems.
  • Preprocess and perform exploratory data analysis on structured and unstructured data.
  • Utilize external data sources to augment internally managed information (e.g., wealth screening information, census data, market research data, financial data, etc.)
  • Assess recurring processes such as data selection and production of model scores and seek to automate processes whenever possible.
  • Define, build, use, and maintain predictive models to predict outcomes and behaviors.
  • Ensure that the uses of data through reports and queries are accurate.
  • Design and develop standardized operational, management, and ad hoc solutions for use by senior university leadership.

Oversee DAR Business Analytics Strategy
  • Work with the Senior Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics to develop and implement an enterprise analytics strategy.
  • In coordination with the Director of Applications and Integrations, maintain and advance the organization's reporting and dashboarding platforms in Tableau and Qlik.
  • Oversee the creation of uniform dashboards and other easily accessible interactive visual reports.
  • Establish a clear vision for the evolution of the business analytics function to leverage the Division's available data and experience to drive predictive analytics for various facets of the organization.
  • Consult with direct report(s), leadership, and other analytic focused staff on appropriate selection, utilization, and interpretation of advanced analytical methodologies.
  • Create and maintain a data dictionary and metadata.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the Division to understand their priorities and provide consultation, strategic planning assistance, reporting tools, and research/evaluative offerings to aid their efforts to drive strategic planning and decision-making through the implementation of advanced analytics and integrate these insights into daily practices.
  • Consult with direct report(s), leadership, and other analytic focused staff on appropriate selection, utilization, and interpretation of advanced analytical methodologies.
  • Collaborate with the DAR Business Analytics and Intelligence community to establish common definitions, reduce reporting redundancies, and share best practices.
  • Contribute to and/or lead development data orientations and learning communities, presenting new business analytics tools, and providing training on workflows.
  • Participate at an appropriate level in professional associations such as APRA, AHP and/or CASE to increase knowledge and skills and stay abreast of industry trends and concerns.

Data Source Management, Data Warehouse, and Data Validation
  • Define, develop, and maintain ETL workflows combining disparate data sources to be used by the Business Analytics and Business Intelligence tools.
  • Ensure platform stability and performance by monitoring existing workflows to ensure they are working correctly and that they reconcile with the source.
  • Perform end to end data validation to maintain accuracy of data sets.
  • Assist with the creation and/or maintenance of a reliable and accurate Data Warehouse with an emphasis on scalability, data integrity, usability, and performance.
  • Develop automated quality control procedures to assess quality of data and provide reports to data owners.
