Job Title : Cook II

Schedule : This position offers a 40-hour work week. Hours and schedules may vary and include nights and weekends. General Schedule is 12 pm-9 pm or 2 pm - CL

Pay : $17.76 / hr

Position Summary : As a Cook II, you will be a crucial part of our culinary team, responsible for preparing a wide variety of special dishes for daily meals, banquets, and special occasions.

Your contributions will help maintain the highest standards of safety, sanitation, and food quality. Additionally, you will play a role in training new team members and fostering positive relationships within our UGA Dining Service community.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Directs and maintains the highest standards of safety & sanitation in assigned areas.
  • Inspects refrigerators and the work of other cooks to prevent food waste.
  • Leads and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen, storeroom, and refrigerators.
  • Monitor production levels to ensure quality and prevent waste :
  • Follow recipes to meet brand standards. Collaborate with management to control levels of inventory.
  • Follow all oral and written instructions associated with production and inventory levels.
  • Operates standard cooking equipment such as : Mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, refrigerators, baking ovens, and stoves.
  • Assists in training new employees.
  • Cooperates in establishing good relationships with all UGA Dining Service personnel.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and / or Competencies :

  • Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods & equipment used in food preparation on a large scale.
  • Considerable knowledge of health hazards in food preparation & service & knowledge of precautionary measures.
  • Ability to work from written menus and standard recipes.
  • Ability to plan lay out & assign work to a staff of skilled and unskilled kitchen workers in a manner conducive to full performance & high morale.
  • Ability to keep accurate records of all foods used.
  • Ability to work long hours standing.

Physical Demands :

  • Move loads up to 50 lbs, unloading and stocking products.
  • Push / pull activity with products weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Perform duties with repetitive motion of wrists, arm, and shoulder, possess hand and finger coordination.
  • Reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel.
  • Work in noisy, hot / cold environments with chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Work long hours standing.
