Job Description:
Responsible for coordination and management of small construction projects.
  • Provide oversight for design, construction, renovation, and repair for short-range and long-range projects small construction projects within department that may include carpet/tile removal and replacement, small mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and space renovation projects
  • Create cost estimates, bid documents invoices, change orders, handling and processing work orders, inspections, outages, and completion certification
  • Conducts preconstruction meetings with selected contractors and monitors and inspects all phases of construction of projects; provides technical, architectural, and engineering advice to construction trades and assists in the evaluation and approval of shop drawings, change orders, and payment requests to assure compliance with construction documents and UF policies.
  • Estimates building costs, establishes project budgets and planning and construction schedules, and is responsible for maintaining established project budget and schedule; works closely with the Purchasing Division and/or annually contracted professional consultants and construction managers to receive, analyze, and negotiate bids for project work.
  • Develop and implement project schedules to maximize work time and minimize disruption of operation, residents, and other staff within the area
  • Develop presentations, status reports, and update MS Projects, that track project progress for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain rotation maintenance schedules for items such flooring, paint, fan coil cleaning, and roof repair
  • Review and comment on plans and specifications, utilizing the most current building and safety codes
  • Make written requests for changes to construction and renovation documents
  • Collaborate with user groups to ensure needs are being met, project coordination, and schedule adherence
  • Serve as liaison to housing staff, stakeholders, and residents regarding upcoming projects and general maintenance within scope of responsibility
  • Collect and analyze data associated with current and historical project costs and general use of facility spaces and equipment
Serves as expediter and inspector for housing construction and renovation projects.
  • Coordinates work schedules with housing maintenance supervisors and outside contractors to facilitate timely completion of projects.
  • Provides ongoing inspections of projects and takes action necessary to correct any situation within specification guidelines.
  • Coordinates and maintains preventative maintenance programs as they relate to projects and equipment.
  • Review and ensure projects meet departmental and university design and construction standards.
Responsible for general office and administrative functions
  • Coordinate meetings between consultants, contractors, and sub-contractors, in-house personnel, and other stakeholders; arrange for site access as needed
  • Assist with establishing budget requirements for special projects, yearly maintenance costs, and long-range cost projections for maintenance projects.
  • Assist with coordination of training for area staff from vendors for new equipment
  • Collaborate with maintenance supervisors to research new and innovative ways to improve residential housing facilities and enhance service to residents.
  • Review of payment applications and invoices
  • Warranty management or recall processing
Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned
Expected Salary:
$70,000 annually

Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, planning or building construction and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
  • Any license recognized by Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations (e.g. Certified
    Building Contractor License)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of Florida Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Gas Codes
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Knowledge of maintenance and construction processes, techniques, and methods
  • Knowledge of building materials and supplies (including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, general hardware), data and communication supplies
SKILLS
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Skill in repairing and maintain buildings, reading technical drawings, and reports
  • Knowledge of bidding process and procedure
ABILITIES
  • Ability to anticipate and be proactive in observing conditions that may create problems when scheduling maintenance and renovation projects
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to read and completed take-offs from blueprints
  • Ability to read and understand specifications
