Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric programs. Its clinical programs are consistently rated among the top ten nationally by US News and World Report. The Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Vice Chair for Clinical Performance at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado. This is a key leadership position that develops and delivers strategic initiatives to enhance and transform clinical services across the Department. The incumbent will work to develop and enhance the partnership between Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) and the Department to create efficient and effective clinical programs with outstanding patient outcomes, appropriate access, and strong family, faculty, and referring provider satisfaction.

These efforts will be accomplished through identification of cultural and operational barriers and the implementation of procedures/activities to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of clinical care delivery, while promoting a gratifying clinical practice experience for our faculty, staff, and trainees. The Vice Chair for Clinical Performance will oversee a dedicated team of experts responsible for the day-to-day progress on key initiatives. It is expected that the Vice Chair will develop strong collaborative relationships with both hospital and Department administrative leaders in the advancement of shared clinical practice optimization goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In close collaboration with Section (i.e., Section Head and Clinical Medical Director(s)) and Hospital leadership (i.e., Chief Patient Experience and Access Officer, Chief Medical Officers, Chief Nursing Executive, and Chief Quality Officer), identify and oversee department-level, high impact projects aimed at improving clinical operations to promote clinical care quality improvement, faculty wellness and sustainable financial health across inpatient and outpatient services within the Department of Pediatrics.
  • Provide strong collaboration and relationship-building with Hospital and School of Medicine leadership to strategically align priorities and workstreams.
  • Co-Chair the Ambulatory Practice Optimization Steering Committee in partnership with CHCO’s Chief Patient Experience and Access Officer).
  • Partner closely with DOP leaders including Pediatrician in Chief and Vice Chair of Wellbeing to align operational initiatives with faculty satisfaction and wellness priorities.
  • Active engagement in the Department’s Vice Chair leadership group to further the work of that team in advancing key Departmental initiatives.
  • Function as a liaison for DOP administration with faculty and hospital leadership and communicate information across all stakeholders.
  • Seek to overcome barriers to initiatives faced by DOP Clinical Operations team, including the effective escalation of opportunities to executive sponsors.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Associate Professor:

  • Current MD/DO medical license and board certification/eligibility in Pediatrics, Masters- or Doctoral-prepared Advanced Practice (NP, PA) degree from an accredited University program, or PhD or PsyD degree from an accredited University.
  • Track record of progressive success in the leadership and administration of large clinical programs in complex adaptive systems – preferably in the academic healthcare environment and encompassing both inpatient and outpatient care delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience and success working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and learner environment.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the level of Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics.

Professor:

  • Current MD/DO medical license and board certification/eligibility in Pediatrics, master’s or Doctoral-prepared Advanced Practice (NP, PA) degree from an accredited University program, or PhD or PsyD degree from an accredited University.
  • Track record of progressive success in the leadership and administration of large clinical programs in complex adaptive systems – preferably in the academic healthcare environment and encompassing both inpatient and outpatient care delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience and success working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and learner environment.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the level of Professor in the Department of Pediatrics.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 years’ experience in a clinical leadership role.
  • Outstanding experience in data-driven clinical practice optimization.
  • Proven administrative and leadership abilities including the ability to work collaboratively within a large, complex, and highly matrixed administrative system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate ideas, visions, and strategies clearly and persuasively.
  • Analytical skills and conceptual thinking that embraces challenges, identifies opportunities, and catalyzes action.
  • Proven ability to develop a realistic vision for the future and develop strategies to realize that vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve measurable results in leading complex projects, facilitating teams, and driving decision-making to implementation.
  • Ability to align operations, finance, and the rapidly changing health care system environment.
  • Knowledge of processes and relationships between entities such as CU Medicine, CHCO, and the University.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

MD/DO

  • Associate Professor: $275,000 to $325,000
  • Professor: $375,000 to $425,000

PhD/PsyD

  • Associate Professor: $170,000 to $200,000
  • Professor: $225,000 to $260,000

Advanced Practice Provider

  • Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant: $150,000 to $175,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
