Neurosurgery at CU is a dynamic, rapidly growing educational enterprise, and we are one of the largest Departments of Neurosurgery in the western United States. Currently the Department encompasses 4 teaching institutions: University Hospital, Colorado Children’s Hospital, the Colorado VA Medical Center and Denver Health and Hospitals, with all but the latter now located on the new 225 acre Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. The Anschutz Medical Campus, is a truly state-of-the-art center for education, clinical programs, research and innovation Our current faculty includes 25 Neurosurgeons, 3 Neuro-critical care Intensivists, an ever-growing division of Interventional Neuro-radiology, 5 Neuropsychologists and 4 full-time dedicated research PH.D.’s. Department of Neurosurgery is seeking an Academic Services Senior Professional to provide their expertise in educational program implementation to coordinate the fellowships for the Dept and other educational opportunities offered by the Department including 3rd and 4th year medical students and international visitors. Working with the new Director of DEI to assist with education trainings they plan to implement. Other duties as assigned by the DFA or Department Chair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to be flexible in managing events
  • Managing all related medical student education program files, student grading, and reporting requirements to assure compliance with University policies for 3rd and 4th year medical students
  • Managing the 7 Fellowship programs within the Department including correspondence with fellows and fellowship candidates, maintaining the candidate and fellow database, arranging for interviews, etc. (Neuro Critical Care, Endovascular Neurosurgery, Stereotactic and Functional, Spine, Pediatric, Skull Base, Neurosurgical Oncology)
  • Assist Education Manager with Residency Program oversightQuarterly Evaluation Completion
  • Oversight of finance and budget related to the Fellowship Programs
  • Maintain upkeep of licensing, memberships, and credentialing for fellows, and physicians within the department
  • Overseeing all aspects of the Department’s master annual education and research schedule and outside special education offerings run by faculty of the DepartmentCoordinate Department Grand Rounds, monthly Department Research meeting, and weekly educational conferences

CME Coordinator for Brain Tumor Conference and Grand Rounds
Manage guest speaker invitations for Grand rounds, scheduling of lectures, and all aspects of travel for visiting professors both clinical and research
Develop and disseminate event communication (email announcements and flyers
Maintain Department calendar
Coordinate international observers, Tanzania and others as requested
Shadowing clinical faculty-over 18 is required-12 hours/year/person-coordinate and track these volunteers

  • Purchasing for department events following fiscal policies
  • Assist Course Manager with course prep and on-site assistance as needed
  • Maintain close relationship with Research and Education team members to coordinate Event schedules
  • Support Endovascular Program and its faculty and staff in administrative tasks
  • Cross coverage for other administrative staff as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in field related to business, healthcare administration, finance, or higher education, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of professional experience working with fellowship or residency programs

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least four year experience at an academic institution.
  • Experience working with fellowship programs within a higher education environment.
  • Experience preparing budgets and ensuring accurate billing processes
  • Experience overseeing and managing events and programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Proficient knowledge and working experience of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong and demonstrable organizational and time management skills; ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage interrelated and/or complex issues or transactions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with different personalities
