Job Summary

We seek a temporary researcher to support an effort to model atmospheric escape from planets. The researcher will use the well-known BATS-R-US MHD model to simulate the escape of charged particles from rocky planets. In collaboration with researchers from LASP and UCLA, they will design model runs, execute them, and analyze the results.

Who We Are

LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. CU receives more NASA funding than any public university in the country, due in large part to LASP programs. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Interact bi-weekly with research scientists from LASP and UCLA
  • Design 3D global MHD model runs for atmospheric escape from planets
  • Run the models
  • Analyze model output
  • Assist in interpretation of model results.

What We Can Offer

$24.00 - $30.00 per hour.

Benefits

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require

  • A BS or BA degree in physics, astronomy, or a related field.
  • Coursework and/or research experience with electricity and magnetism.
